Greetings!
Please join us on Sunday, May 15, 2016 for
UU's Can Believe Anything They Want? Really?
We'll look at both the historical and current theological sources of the religion, and why ministers and religious educators dislike that statement. There will be a New Member Recognition in the first part of the service.

Hello dear Congregants,
This Sunday after the second service will be the Annual Meeting of this church. It is the place where congregational polity is most experienced. Congregational Polity is the form of governance for Unitarian Universalism, Baptists, and United Church of Christ denominations.
At the annual meeting, leaders will be elected, and the annual budget will be approved. You will hear reports from the President of the Congregation, the Minister, and the Treasurer. It is somewhat like a State of the Union address. There is much to know about congregational polity. I've chosen a few points from so much information on our denomination's website to share with you from the Theological Perspective section. I'll be talking more about this in my report and from the pulpit Sunday. For UUs under congregational polity each congregation is self-governing, choosing its own leadership, handling its own finances, and choosing its own delegates to the General Assembly. When we say we agree to govern ourselves in accordance with the principles of "congregational polity," we affirm the moral and spiritual values that we believe this form of governance expresses and sustains by its very nature. Central among these values is the freedom of people to form self-determining, egalitarian, and democratic religious communities. If we are deeply committed to congregational polity, it is because its beliefs and values are central to our liberal faith. We need to affirm congregational polity as a covenant, that is, a mutual agreement and a commitment to walk together and support one another; it is an expression of our spiritual vision. Our Spiritual Vision - who we are and what we want to be. On with the search!!

Congregational Meeting Announcement
This Sunday-12:45--is our Annual Congregational meeting. Please come! We will vote to accept or reject the budget, and we will vote on two new board members, a full term for our current Treasurer who is completing the previous Treasurer's term, and one member of the Healthy Congregation Committee.
Our By-laws are very specific about how we conduct these meetings: for the elections, we will have a prepared ballot pre-filled with the potential officers proposed by the Leadership Development Committee, and we will take nominations from the floor as well. For the ballot, we will have a yes/no vote. If there are parts of the budget you cannot accept, your responsibility is to vote "no" and ask the board to revise the budget.
The letter went out last week with details. If you have any questions, feel free to ask anyone on the board questions between now and the meeting.
Thanks for participating!

Rummage Sale Total Is In
The Rummage Sale total is in! This year sales topped off at $6245.67, including the per-pound purchase of all of the "left-overs." Epic Thrift brought a truck and loaded all of the items that didn't sell, hauled it all away, and sent us a check for $631.73.
Montgomery County Youth Services was not only the charity chosen to be the recipient of a portion of the proceeds, but they also brought several children who gleefully participated in the sale. The children worked hard at sign spinning and organizing, and their energy was contagious. Northwoods will present MCYS with $1561.42 in gift cards for their cause.
As usual, the Rummage Sale was a smashing success thanks to all of the hard working volunteers, the amazing donations, and the community members who love a bargain. Thank you to all who participated.

Northwoods UU Partners for Connection Program
The Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Partners for Connection program offers a method for visitors and new members to be matched with current members based on their shared interests, skills, and passions. This partnering program will help visitors and new members become engaged with our Northwoods community in ways that work for them and provide for a smooth transition to membership.
Partners for Connection is a way for us to enact our Covenant's commitment to "work to build community." It is also a way to "learn, support, and serve one another" - as our Mission Statement urges us to do. It is offered as a part of our Pathways to Membership program.
Complete the attached form if you wish to join the Partners for Connection Program as a visitor or new member, or as a Partner (current member). This information will enable us to match visitors and new members with established member Partners, according to their shared interests and concerns.
Of course, participation is completely voluntary.
For more information, please contact Kate Rhoad or Helen Sherwood.
