Quarterly e-Newsletter from the Shane Victorino Foundation                            WINTER 2013

Message from Shane and Melissa

shane and melissa

Spring Training has arrived and with it, our excitement for the upcoming year! It has been a busy offseason for our Foundation and we want to update you on our activities this winter. Our Hawaii golf events were another fantastic success! In addition, we added two new projects which are directly impacting underserved youth - a baseball clinic and kids holiday party.

As we look ahead, we are proud of the Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club and will remain involved with the great work being done there. In Hawaii, we recently dedicated a batting cage for local Little Leaguers and hope it will be the first of other similar projects. In Boston, we plan to continue our charity ticket program "Flyin' Hawaiian All-Stars" as well as explore other opportunities to further our mission of serving at-risk youth.

Thank you for taking this journey with us - we couldn't do it without your support!

Aloha,

Melissa and Shane Victorino

OUR WORK

We proudly dedicated the Shane Victorino Foundation Batting Cage at the Waipio Neighborhood Park on January 29, 2013. Construction was funded by a $25,000 grant from the Foundation, in recognition of the Waipio Little League's success at the Little League World Series over the past several years. Numerous local companies also donated materials, supplies and labor towards the project. Joining Shane for the ceremony were members of the Foundation's Board of Directors, local dignitaries, and league members and representatives.

"The Hawaii community has been so supportive of me and my family and I am honored to be able to give back and provide opportunities for children. I am especially excited to be able to provide these batting cages that will hopefully help other keiki further develop baseball skills and passion for the sport I love so much."  - Shane Victorino

Youth Baseball Clinic

Our inaugural youth baseball clinic brought nearly 150 children together to learn from MLB players (including Shane, Brandon League, Clay Buchholz, Jason Vargas, Kanekoa Texeira, Dayton Alexander) and local high school coaches. Kids ages 8-17 from Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, Pa'ia Youth & Cultural Center, and Kihei Youth Center joined us on December 8, 2012 to hone their skills on the field, as well as hear from Shane the importance of working hard and dreaming big! Lunch was provided courtesy of Zippy's and each child received a gift bag and T-shirt. Visit our website for additional photos!

Victorino Club celebrates 1st Anniversary

On January 4, 2013, we commemorated the one-year anniversary of the Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club! Shane and Melissa joined youth members for an informal celebration at the Club, including games, Cheesesteaks from Tony Luke's and a custom cake by Potito's Bakery. An oversized check was presented to Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia, signifying the $900,000 donation made by the Foundation to renovate the century-old building.

Spreading Holiday Cheer

In December, we held our 5th annual holiday toy drive, benefiting Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, The Shade Tree women's and children's shelter & Matthew's Closet. Hundreds turned out to Sierra Gold, where more than 500 toys were collected. Everyone who donated had a chance to win signed memorabilia.

The following weekend, we hosted a holiday party for nearly 200 youth

at Catholic Charities. Their courtyard was decorated like a winter wonderland and kids were treated to photos with Santa, toys, lunch and more. Families served by Catholic Charities are often facing homelessness, poverty and other crisis. One parent expressed that their photo with Santa was their only family photo. Through this event, we hoped to make the holidays a little brighter for those children.

Donor Spotlight - Four Seasons Resort Mauifour seasons

Over the past three years, our host for the Celebrity Dinner & Golf Classic has been the Four Seasons Resort Maui. Overlooking Wailea Beach, this luxurious resort is not only beautiful, but their staff embodies the Aloha spirit. The Four Seasons Maui has been a tremendous supporter of SVF and a big part of our success in the islands!

Another Grand Slam by Zippy's

The results of our Zippy's promotion are in! 2012 marked the third year of our amazing partnership and through the sale of Vic Pacs and baseball cutouts, $22,000 was raised for our efforts in Hawaii. Mahalo to Zippy's and their customers for hitting a grand slam for the Shane Victorino Foundation!

A "Golden" Partnership

For the second year, Golden

Gaming/PT's Entertainment Group designated SVF as the beneficiary of their annual charity golf tournament. The private event was held in November, at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas. Shane, Bryce Harper and UFC's Roy "Big Country" Nelson joined corporate sponsors on the course. A HUGE thank you to Golden Gaming, all the event sponsors and participants for raising an incredible $25,000!

Thank you, IGT!

We are grateful to International Game Technology (IGT), a generous sponsor of our Kids Holiday Party, for providing us with a grant of $5,000. IGT employees also showed their support by holding a toy drive at their Las Vegas facility, which collected close to 200 toys for local children in need.
