Letter from the President
Finally Fall... Although our weather is not responding to the calendar with so many hot days in September! Many thanks to the judges of our annual show, Artist Catharine Newell and Julie Weaverling of the Front Porch Gallery. It was earlier than usual so our entries were down but never the less a wonderful variety of glass art. Congratulations to Rich Stewart who won best of show with his mixed media sculpture. Catharine Newell gave a lecture at the Point Loma Library and then taught a 3-day workshop in San Marcos. It was a great event but it was quite warm in the studio all weekend. (see the article below.) We have a show opportunity at the Carmel Valley library for the month of November. We will be sending out more details on entries and requirements.
Devon Willis from Bullseye Glass will be joining Carrie Iverson for a lecture at the Mission Valley Library on Thursday October 22 from 5:30 to 7:00 Carrie Iversons four day workshop "images in Glass" is coming up on October 23 - 26. Also we have a workshop/lecture on grant writing at the Mission Valley Library on Sunday, November 15 from 2-4 pm by Artist Tom Marosz.
Be sure and review our calendar so you do not miss out!

Catharine Newell Workshop by Sandy Levin
What a great workshop! Nine brave artists participated in a glass powder workshop by renowned Bullseye artist Catherine Newell. I say brave, because Catherine had us dig deep into our emotions, recalling childhood memories, then transferring those memories into a glass triptych. After that we explored a topic of our choosing and went to work on 4"x 4" tiles, tack fusing powders to the glass. But the fun didn't stop there, we practiced our critiquing skills and discussed important topics such as finishing work, approaching galleries, gluing and hanging work, shipping and professional aspects of being an artist. But wait, There was also a slide show of other artists who use glass powder and we will never forget the lunch breaks, wine, brownies and salty snacks - all to keep us sufficiently cool and hydrated in the 95-100 degree heat.
Thank you Susan and Denise for all the behind the scenes effort you put into making this a most enjoyable weekend. We couldn't have done it without you.

AGASC Members Show Reception
By Susan Hirsch This year the AGASC Members show was earlier than previous years so the number of entries was down, but not the enthusiasm and fun. Gayle Tunney Richardson came through again pulling together this big event for the us. Many thanks to all of the other volunteers who stepped up to make this show a success for the organization and a huge thank you to our sponsors and friends in the glass community that donated items for our prizes. The raffle set a record this year, so thanks for all of the generous donations. I for one was very excited to win my raffle choice, a lovely cast glass piece by one of my favorite artists, Cathy Coverley. We sold two pieces, one of Carolyn Moores and one from Connie Govier. Glenn Richardson and Joe Angelastro provided some fabulous musical entertainment that was appreciated by all. Our Judges were Catharine Newell of Bullseye and Julie Weaverling, assistant director of The Front Porch Gallery in Carlsbad. View our entire album at this link

Fallbrook Art Center
18th Annual Galaxy of Glass
Again this year the Galaxy of Glass exhibit in Fallbrook was really exceptional. The gallery is spacious and every piece is beautifully lit, allowing each to shine. This exhibit covered an an amazing variety of different styles and techniques. The AGASC members were well represented, much more than in the collage below (see the rest via the link). The artists reception was September 12th and well attended by sponsors, artists and friends. Link to the rest of the photos...
at this AGASC picasa linkPlease note... the show has been extended to November 15th... so there is still plenty of time to see it.
