Please see our website for more information at http://cfpainc.org/cfpaevents/communityservice.html. You can also check out Lungs for Brent Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/LungsforBrent. The March Membership Meeting and bowling night was a great success. A big Thank You to US Legal for sponsoring this event. We bowled, ate pizza, and a good time was had by all. CFPA also participated in the Pathways in Law Program, CFPA put together goodie bags for the children and also provided chaperones to help at the Orange County Courthouse on March 22, 2013. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to Marisa Green, Caroline Wilkerson, and Orange Legal for representing CFPA. CFPA's CLE Chair also put together a very successful seminar on e-filing in March. Remember as of April first the e-filing regulations changed. Make sure you are up to date on the rules. Our website has more information if you are in need of it. Don't forget to register for the May 18-19, 2013 two day seminar in Cocoa Beach. They seating is limited and will fill up quickly. Don't wait until the last minute. Also don't forget about the CFPA Cruise in September, you must register and pay before June. CFPA Participates in Pathways in Law Program ... by Caroline Wilkerson, CP
On March 22, 2013, CFPA volunteers spent time with Judge Faye Allen at the Orange County Courthouse to assist with the Pathways in Law program. Pathways in Law is geared toward encouraging young people to pursue careers in some area of the law or legal field. Judge Allen, who has spearheaded this annual event for several years, invited guest speakers to discuss their careers and the steps they took to reach their respective professions. Speakers included a lieutenant from the Orange County Sheriff's Department, a state attorney, public defender, corrections officers, a Creole and Spanish Interpreter and a court reporter. The children, ranging in age from 7 to 16, gained invaluable insight from the speakers' personal stories. They also participated in a "mock trial" and enjoyed role playing from a script Judge Allen developed. A big thank you goes to Marisa Green, CP, FRP, for organizing the logistics of this event, which included getting coolers, goody bags and several pizzas through court security! CFPA volunteers Marisa, Caroline Wilkerson, CP and Nikki Rodeman and a HUGE thank you to Orange Legal volunteers, Ana Aaron, Maria Garcia and Kristin Stevens helped serve lunch to the children and distributed goody bags after the program. It was a rewarding experience to participate and see the children's interest and involvement as they learned about these worthwhile careers. We are grateful for the donations from Children's Home Society for goody bags, Orange Legal for school supplies and Papa Johns for pizzas. Thanks also to Dean Ringer, Roper & Roper, Labar Adams, Southern Trial Counsel and Shutts and Bowen for their donations for this event.
