TriLaVie - Not Just for Ironmen!
| TriLaVie Triathlon 2013 |
TriLaVie is a women's triathlon team in Orange County, CA with more than 115 members of all athletic abilities training for various triathlon races throughout the year. Most women join the team with no triathlon experience and very little training in swim, bike or run. Together with the coaches and local partners, the women gain the skills, strength and endurance to compete successfully at all levels of triathlon. TriLaVie is more than just an athletic team. TriLaVie provides an avenue to enrich women's lives by promoting health, lifestyle balance and connection to family, friends and community. Completing a triathlon is the icing-on-the-cake of a life-changing journey!
But Ironman??? How did they do it?
There is so much that goes into triathlon competitions, but it starts with a deep desire called the "fire in the belly" from the athlete and continues with strong coaching and team support.
| Lee and Cherie Gruenfeld |
TriLaVie Founder and Head Coach Martha Szufnarowski built a coaching team which includes world-renowned Ironman Coach
Cherie Gruenfeld.
Cherie heads the TriLaVie Ironman Training
Program (TLV-IM) and
is a legendary athlete in the triathlon world. Since
doing her first triathlon at the age of 48,
Cherie has completed 19 Ironman World Championship Triathlons in Kona, Hawaii including the race this past October 2013.
According to Coach Martha, Cherie has the "whole package!" She is a phenomenal athlete AND she knows how to coach others to their maximum potential. As if that isn't enough,
Cherie founded an organization called Exceeding Expectations Foundation to provide support to at-risk youth through triathlon to promote education and life success. Cherie is the author of Become an Ironman. Read more about Cherie and her great work at www.CherieGruenfeld.com or www.EEFoundation.org

What's even MORE amazing? Team TriLaVie Support!
TriLaVie Team members came out in record numbers - more than 33- to volunteer at the race and to cheer for the entire day from 5am - Midnight. Volunteer duties included medical tent, swim safety in kayaks, run course aid station staffing, registration and "environmental department"-aka: trash collection!! These volunteers traveled from OC to Tempe just support the race and racers! Outstanding!
