Governor's Awards
for the Arts
Comes to Indiana PA

The Governor's Awards for the Arts was held for the first time in 1980 and one of the honorees that first year was Indiana PA native Jimmy Stewart. This year the 2014 Awards will be held in Indiana, PA on September 28 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This is the first time that the awards event has been held on a university campus. The award recipients were announced by Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett at a press conference on July 24 at the Jimmy Stewart Museum in downtown Indiana.

"It is especially meaningful to announce the honorees of this year's Governor's Awards for the Arts in the hometown museum that celebrates the first recipient of a Pennsylvania Governor's award,
actor Jimmy Stewart," Mrs. Corbett, the chair of the Pennsylvania
Council on the Arts, said.

This year's honorees are:

Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh - Arts Innovation Award
Jennifer Higdon, Philadelphia - Distinguished Arts Award
Robert Qualters, Pittsburgh - Artist of the Year
Myron Tomb, Indiana - Arts Leadership and Service Award
Mark E. Pasquerilla, Johnstown - Arts Patron Award

Governor Tom Corbett will present the awards on Sunday, September 28, at 4:00 p.m. at the Fisher Auditorium of the IUP Performing Arts Center. The awards ceremony is free and open to the public and will be followed by a public reception. The event is part of a September 27-28 weekend celebration of the arts in locations throughout Indiana County.
