Greetings friends!

2013:  Celebrating  20 years of growing food
for our community!!

KEEP IT GROWING
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
We have had a tremendous response from our campaign. Thank you so very very much! We are going to need more capital for the next big push: training and hiring staff is our top priority now. We are about to add 12 more people to our Outer Aisle team and need the cash flow to create the buoyancy that'll float us into our opening and beyond. We are open to any amount although looking for larger sums and longer term paybacks. If this type of investments interests you please let us know and we can explain the details to you personally.

A NEW Opportunity to Support

Want to help but are not in a financial
position to do so?
You can!
If you are planning on re-joining our Box Delivery for the late Fall, Winter and early Spring please let us know so we can reactivate your account with a vacation hold until you are ready to start. Bolstering our numbers will give us further confidence that this "big" move is supported by lots of potentiality.

We appreciate that you may still be shopping at local Farmers Markets or still getting produce from your own garden. Nevertheless if your intention is to rejoin let us know early so we can count on you in the months to come!

Last week we promised y  ou a progress report and here it is: we have the keys in our hands, the first month of rent paid, and the first stage of remodeling under our belt.  The old sign is down, the space has been "saged" and cleared, the doors are wide open and inspiration is coming in.
With the interior partitions removed the space opened up tremendously. We are looking for furnishing accents - if you have a comfortable leather couch or sturdy and comfortable chair we may be interested. How about an old hutch? Indoor plants?? Any ideas?? we'd like to hear them.

Thank you for all of the support!

As we get clearer around the various positions we are offering we are becoming aware of the need for flexibility across job descriptions.
Our current OA team has been stepping it up and some are getting geared to take on new roles  and offer their expertise in all things OA through training  new staff. If you know anyone that is interested please

RECIPE of the week

Trumpet Mushroom Linguine - recipe from the New York Times, adapted from
"A passion for Mushrooms" by Antonio Carluccio
Serves 4, 15 minutes

Salt
1/2 pound fresh trumpet mushrooms, chopped
6 Tbsp. butter
12 ounces linguine
freshly grated nutmeg
freshly ground white pepper
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
3-4 Tbsp. chopped fresh chives

Heat 2 Tbsp. butter in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms and sprinkle with salt. Cook, stirring until well wilted and tender, about 10 minutes.

When mushrooms are nearly done, cook pasta until al dente. Remove about 1/4 cup cooking water and set aside. Drain pasta and transfer to a warm serving bowl. Add remaining butter, mushrooms, grated nutmeg and white pepper. Toss to mix, adding reserved water as needed. Add cheese, and toss until pasta is coated and ingredients are integrated. Sprinkle with chives and serve with additional cheese if desired.
Outer Aisle FOODS & GOODS "Essentials for the 21st Century". Our mission is to facilitate a speedy transition to a sustainable economy by offering the essential tools, ingredients and knowledge to prepare us for the 21st century.

Behind the scenes of Outer Aisle is Taylor Mountain Gardens. Located just around the corner on Main Street in Douglas Flat, our nearly two acre "beyond organic" farm produces a large variety of seasonal vegetables including these seasonal highlights: summer heirloom tomatoes, fall cauliflower, winter carrots and spring potatoes to name just a few!

OuterAisle FOODS operates a year round CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. We distribute the highest quality, local, seasonal and regional produce and products to members all over Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. We only purchase product from farms and producers who are committed to ecologically sustainable practices and go beyond the National "Organic" standards.
