In just 13 days we will have the keys to the building! Until then the process of creating a home for Outer Aisle has begun by: redesigning the website; acquiring a Beer and Wine License; locating and almost purchasing a tractor; seeking great employees; envisioning murals and signage; looking for a produce display case, a glass door freezer and other essential items.

THIS WEEK'S PRODUCE
& OFFERINGS:

The season is changing and the fall greens are bulking out. Coming from the garden this week: spicy Arugula, tender Dino Kale and colorful Swiss Chard.

Gorgeous sweet Red Beets with their green tops announce the start of the root season.

The last couple of weeks on Vogliotti Onions - these beautiful summer onions have been so deliciously sweet and we will sadly miss them until their return in June next year.

With the garden producing so many different things, it's not every week we go to the coast.
This week we made the trip  and picked up fresh sauerkraut, Shittake and King Trumpet mushrooms, cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, parsnips and green beans.

We've had to live without avocados for a week but now they are back again. We love it that we get them directly from the farm (7th Heaven, Cayucos), but sometimes doing it this way we have disruptions in supply. Two varieties: Hass & Lamb

NEW: We have a new wholesale distributor for those hard to find items that are grown outside of our 150 mile shopping radius. Veritable Vegetable is one of the pioneering organic distributors that have been around since the start of organics in this State. We are happy to do business with this highly regarded company that has values that we admire; for instance they run their trucking fleet on bio-diesel!

RECIPE of the week

GRILLED SWEET POTATO with Lime and Cilantro

1-2 sweet potatoes, unpeeled
Kosher salt
2 teaspoons finely grated lime zest
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1/4 cup olive or coconut oil
Freshly ground pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro

Par-cook the potatoes: Place in a pot of water and boil until fork-tender; let cool. Slice each potato lengthwise into eighths.

Preheat a grill to medium or place a cast-iron grill pan over medium heat. Mix 1 tablespoon salt, the lime zest and cayenne in a small bowl.

Brush the potato wedges with the oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill until golden brown on all sides (including the skin) and just cooked through, about 1 1/2 minutes per side. Transfer to a platter; immediately season with the salt mixture and sprinkle with cilantro.
