Our mission for the Cafe is to serve healthy wholesome dishes using the ever-changing seasonal fresh  ingredients from farmers like us. Encourage a passion for cooking and

We'll  feature a blackboard menu, highlighting the finest produce and ingredients our region can offer, encourage recipe sharing, host cooking classes and demos, and for those on the run, we'll have take-out items
made in our certified kitchen.

Big Salad:  
 Garden greens tossed in creamy buttermilk dressing with Sun Gold tomatoes, Suyo Cucumber, Gypsy Bell Pepper, hard boiled egg, Vogliotto heirloom red onion, yellow peach, toasted sunflower seeds, Haas avocado, fresh ground black pepper. Full $12/ Half $7.50. Add a chunk of Wild Alaskan Salmon for $4

Marinated Greek Cucumber salad, Diestel Turkey Spinach, Feta & Pinenut link, Caraway Sauerkraut, Dijon mustard, Greek olives, a selection of cheeses and fresh seasonal fruit. Aria's french baguette.

Caprese Salad:
Ripe mixed Heirloom Tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella, olive oil, salt and pepper, and three varieties of basil.

EARLY JULY:   
Salsa season has arrived. We'll be making our own salsa for farmers' market and the deli case starting this week. Chiles have arrived! Anaheim, Pablano, Jalapeno are coming on strong. The fruit selection is enormous with something like 20 varieties to choose from.
Abundance abounds at Outer Aisle! Thank you to all the amazing producers that dedicate there time and energy to growing such beautiful fruits and vegetables that nourish and feed us all!

RECIPE of the week
 
Eric's Nut Butter Salad Dressing
Simply delicious and nutritious ...
¾ cup Olive Oil
Juice of 2 lemons
¼ cup Balsamic Vinegar
¼ cup of nut butter (almond/peanut)
1 TSP Tamari (or soy sauce)
2 minced garlic cloves
2 TSP water
3 TSP honey

Combine well in a blender.

Zucchini (summer squash) Feta Pancakes from Mollie Katzen, Moosewood Cookbook.
Delicious as a lunch or light dinner - half recipe for smaller servings.

Grated Zucchini (4 cups), salt and let stand for 10 minutes, rinse and squeeze dry before mixing with other ingredients.
4 eggs, separated
1 cup crumbled feta cheese
½ cup finely minced scallions
1 tsp. Dried mint (or fresh)
Salt and pepper
½ cup flour
Oil for frying
Sour cream or yogurt for topping.

Beat the egg whites until stiff. In a medium sized bowl combine zucchini, egg yolks, feta, scallions, seasonings and flour. Mix well.
Fold the egg whites into the zucchini mixture. Heat a little oil in a heavy skillet. When it is very hot, add spoonfuls of batter and fry on both sides until golden and crisp. Serve immediately, toped with sour cream or yogurt.

Located just around the corner on Main Street in Douglas Flat, our nearly two acre "beyond organic" farm produces a large variety of seasonal vegetables including these seasonal highlights: summer heirloom tomatoes, fall cauliflower, winter carrots and spring potatoes to name just a few! 

OuterAisle FOODS operates a year round CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. We distribute the highest quality, local, seasonal and regional produce and products to members all over Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. We only purchase product from farms and producers who are committed to ecologically sustainable practices and go beyond the National "Organic" standards.
