News From Outer Aisle
New Year Newsletter 2013
Greetings friends! HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013: Celebrating 20 years of growing food for our community!!
COMING IN FEBRUARY. (You may have heard a rumor and it's true!) The Cafe is a culmination of 20 years in the making. We literally started from the ground up. Since 1993 we have been growing food, creating recipes, growing more food, opening a farm store, experimenting with farm-to-table dinners, garlic festivals, and finally now our very own Cafe.
"The Cafe is our most recent place where we express our passion for food."OUR MISSIONOur mission for the Cafe is to serve healthy wholesome dishes using the ever-changing seasonal fresh ingredients from farmers like us. Encourage a passion for cooking and life long healthy eating. OUR VISIONWe'll feature a blackboard menu, highlighting the finest produce and ingredients our region can offer, encourage recipe sharing, host cooking classes and demos, and for those on the run, we'll have take-out items made in our certified kitchen. Sound good?
Optimistic projected soft opening February 1st. We'll keep you posted!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK:
Healthy Roasted Root Vegetables
 | | Roasted Roots |
This time of year the earthy root vegetables make their debut. I like to think of them as anchoring and nourishing in a seasonal way. As winter is the inward time of year (comtemplative and healing) the roots lend themselves to the mood of t
he season. Try simply roasting a variety of roots, moving away from the traditional potatoes and sweet potatoes and expanding your eating horizons to include lesser known roots: rutabagas, turnips, celeraic, parsnips and beets. Of course adding potatoes, carrots and onions makes for a wonderful combination too.
STEP BY STEP ROASTING:
- Select fresh roots that are firm
- Peel the roots for a more delicate flavor
- Evenly cut into bite size pieces
- Parboil the veggies until el dente
- Drain and turn into a casserole dish
- Coat with 2 - 3 TBS olive oil
- Salt, pepper and herbs (optional) of your choice
- Roast for 20-30 mins @ 350 degree oven
