June 9 & 16, 2016
Special Event after ONE Worship July 10
It's summer all rolled up in one day! We will worship together in one service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 10, then head outside, not to our cars but to a church-family picnic! For the first time ever, we will have two food trucks in the parking lot for folks who want to purchase their lunch. Those of us who prefer may bring a picnic lunch to worship, then stay and enjoy the fun and fellowship throughout the afternoon. The deacons will provide water and lemonade, and refrigeration will be available.
We're a versatile congregation; we can worship, eat, play, and fill out simple forms! Out on the front lawn, we're going to have a huge wiffle ball game and an even huger kickball game. Closer at hand, parents and grandparents will have the opportunity to register children for Vacation Bible School, which will begin the next morning. Let's mark our calendars, shake out those picnic blankets, dust off the folding chairs, and prepare to join in the fun!
Mission Mondays Are Family Time

Mission Mondays are here! Most Monday mornings in June bring an opportunity for families to get together and serve in the community. The next Mission Monday will be June 20. We will meet at the church at 10:30, then go into the community to serve. We may have an opportunity for lunch and playground time afterward. For more information, contact Lilly Osborne at losborne@fpcbristol.org
Fun Family Fellowship at FPC June 15

The Children's Ministries will hold Fun Family Fellowship next Wednesday, June 15, at 5:30 p.m., behind the church. If it rains, we will use a room in the Children's Wing. The final June gathering will be held on the 29th. Plan now to join us!
Vacation Bible School Begins July 11
The theme for this summer's Vacation Bible School is "Cave Quest: Following Jesus the Light of the World." VBS will meet at the church from 9:00 to 12:00 on the mornings of July 11, 12, and 13. For more information, contact Lilly Osborne, Director of Children's Ministries.
Tuesday Night Middle School FISH

On June 7, FPC middle school students had their first gathering of the summer. Fellowship in Someone's Home (FISH) will continue to meet Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. on June 21 and 28 andJuly 12, 19, and 26 (no meeting July 5). A text with the location will go out each week. If you do not receive FPC Student Ministry texts, please let Katie Arnold know so she can add you to the list. If you would like to host FISH, please let Katie know that, too! Her email address is karnold@fpcbristol.org
Wednesday Night High School Devos

FPC high school students began their summer fun June 8 at Brad and Katie Arnold's house. All FPC high schoolers are invited to head to the Arnolds' home on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. for devotions and to hang out. The remaining dates are June 22; July 6, 13, 20, and 27; and August 3. Bring friends, come hang!
Men's Breakfast Takes a Summer Break
The monthly Men's Breakfast and Bible Study is taking the summer off. We will resume in August or September. We will announce the date of the next meeting in plenty of time for you to put it on your calendar!
Greedy Thoughts in a Green Shade

We will enjoy a picnic on the grounds next month, and that thought makes today's theme ineluctably culinary. As Dan Gross mows the lawn for June 12, he may well muse on the fact that Sunday, although of no special note in the church year, has, among other distinctions, the honor of being National Peanut Butter Cookie Day. Will Erin and Matt Kingsley, who take over this task the following week, wonder whether it is simple coincidence that June 19 is both Father's Day and National Turkey Lovers' Day? We cannot say. Our wisdom is bounded by the knowledge that June 26 is National Chocolate Pudding Day and, unaccountably, not a special day in the church year. Will that inhibit in any way the zeal with which Pat Flannagan will whip the lawn into shape? We think not.
If you would like to help us mow, Randy Cook will be happy to give you a quick lesson on our Scag Tiger Cat. We welcome adults and teens, men and women for what we hope will be regular duty. If you can pitch in for even a single morning or afternoon, please email Randy at npolecook@aol.com or call his cell at 423-956-1541. Thank you!

Crawford Thoburn
Music for June 12: The Sanctuary Choir anthem for this Sunday is a musical setting of a Christina Rossetti poem, "None Other Lamb." Rossetti (1830-94) is noted for her spiritually rich devotional poetry, and this text calls out that we have no other safe abode than the Lamb. The musical setting is by Crawford R. Thoburn (b. 1933), Emeritus Professor of Music at Wells College in Aurora, New York. He captures the simple elegance of the text with a setting that highlights the comfort found in the knowledge that we are safe in Jesus. The choir introit, "O Come, Let Us Sing to the Lord," is a brief setting of Psalm 95:1 by Hal Hopson.
Music participants for June 19: Sanctuary Choir; Pat Flannagan, director; Donna Fowlkes, organist. The Feys will be attending the Mo-Ranch, Texas, Worship & Music Conference sponsored by the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, where Vicki will accompany the youth choir.
Guest Preacher for June 12: Dan Kreiss
Dan Kreiss

For 30 years, Dan Kreiss has served in youth ministry in New Zealand and the US  as a church youth pastor, boys' home supervisor, and school chaplain as well as through Youth for Christ. Dan has thrown himself into coaching a range of sports to connect with young people on their terms. He teaches in and directs the Youth Ministry degree program at King University and is studying toward his Master of Divinity degree. Dan is particularly passionate about working with youth outside traditional ministry contexts: in urban settings, athletics, and camps and through outdoor adventures. He will lead our Urban Promise mission in Camden, New Jersey, June 26 through July 2. He has been married to Cindy for 25 years, and together they have four children ranging in age from 12 to 23.
Guest Preacher for June 19: Paul Warhurst
Paul Warhurst

Paul Warhurst is an FPC elder and a Senior Lecturer in New Testament and Theology at King University. He did his PhD work at the University of St. Andrews on Søren Kierkegaard's writings on the Sermon on the Mount, with no detriment to his golf game. When not teaching, he enjoys being with his wife, Amber, and their three children, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, drinking coffee, and occasionally working on his house.
Prayers for Our Pastoral Searches
Please join our Session of Elders in prayers for both the continuing search for an interim pastor and the beginning of the process of finding our next full-time, installed pastor. The congregation is invited to join with the elders in these two opportunities. The first is daily at noon, praying wherever you may be. The second is as part of an open gathering every Wednesday evening at 6:00 in the church chapel. Materials, Bibles, and hymnals are available for this prayer time.
Pray for One Another
An extensive list of prayer concerns, "Pray for One Another," is available for pickup at the church each week.
