Musical in One Worship Service This Sunday

"Filled Full!" is our EPIC theme for this Sunday, August 30, and you will see (and hear!) it wonderfully brought to life by our talented children and youth in Table for Five ... Thousand. The Savior's Singers Children's Choir and the Jubilate Youth Choir will present this musical about the miracle of the loaves and fishes as we worship together in one service at 10:30 a.m. Please join us for this very special presentation! Worship will be at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Sunday School will begin fifteen minutes early, at 9:30.
New Ministry Opportunity in Early Worship: Proclaim!
"For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord."-2 Corinthians 4:5
You are invited to participate in Proclaim, a new worship team at FPC!
WHO: Fusion (5th and 6th grades), youth, and adults
WHAT: The Proclaim team will read scripture or lead responsive readings during the 8:30 Sunday service. Shannan Miller, the early worship coordinator, will send you an email with the scripture or other reading for the Sunday on which you will serve, and you will review and prepare it on your own time.
WHERE: Fellowship Hall
WHEN: 8:30 on Sunday morning, on a rotation basis
WHY: To enrich our worship time together and offer the opportunity for service in the church by involving more people in worship leadership.
HOW: To sign up, email Shannan at smiller@fpcbristol.org, or send her your email information on Facebook messaging.
Wednesday Adult Program: Telling Our Story

Next Wednesday, September 2, Dave Welch will lead the evening's adult learning segment in "Telling Our Story." He will invite us to look at our own stories through the lens of the biblical salvation narrative. We'll reflect on how and where we fit in, and consider ways to share our story, woven by God, with others. We will gather in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 for dinner, and the adult program will follow at 6:20. Wednesday Night Kids and Student Ministries small groups will meet at 6:00.
Sunday Deadline for Nominations for Elders and Deacons

We are winding down the process of nominating church officers for the coming year, but we still welcome your suggestions of those members whom you see as particularly gifted for serving as elders or deacons.Nominating forms are available at the church and online here. The deadline for submitting names is this Sunday, August 30, at noon.
The members of the 2015 Officer Nominating Committee are Tom Faucette, Parker Sword, Andrew Beck, Jackie Burt, and John Connor.
Reading Buddies Orientation Tonight at FPC
The orientation meeting for Reading Buddies will be held in our Fellowship Hall tonight at 6:00. Reading Buddies are adult volunteers who meet with an assigned Fairmount Elementary School student once a week to read together or take part in other activities to build reading skills. This program both improves a child's reading ability and builds a crucial relationship with a caring adult. For more information, please contact school liaison Kay Ward at wardk@btcs.org or (423) 652-9251.
We Need Dinner Hosts for Our Family Promise Week

Our turn to host families in the Family Promise of Bristol program is coming up soon. Our guests will be with us from the evening of Sunday, September 13, through the early morning of Sunday, September 20. Our congregation has stepped up handsomely, and we now are looking for three volunteers to serve as dinner hosts on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday of that week. Dinner hosts welcome our guests at 5:30, eat with them, and stay until the evening hosts arrive at 8:30.
To volunteer, please contact Scottie Bales by email, text, or phone at 423-360-5357 or scottie@rtherapeutics.com. Thank you so much for your love and hospitality to our guests!
Save the Date for Parents' Night Out!

Our first Parents' Night Out of the new program year has been scheduled for Friday, September 11, from 6:00 to 8:30 at the church. As ever, it will be fun for parents and children alike! Mark your calendars and check for details to come!
Men's Breakfast Next Saturday

The men of the church will have their monthly breakfast and Bible study next Saturday, September 5, at 8:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. All men of the church are encouraged to come for good fellowship and a great start to the weekend. Bring a friend!
Women's Wednesday Morning DVD Bible Study Resumes September 9

Summer break is over! Lorri Looney's Wednesday morning Heart to Heart DVD Bible study group will resume meeting September 9. We will begin a five-week study of Priscilla Shirer's Breathe. Workbooks will be available for purchase at the first session. All women of the church are invited to join us at 9:30 in the church parlor. Bring a friend!
Student Small Groups Resume Next Wednesday

Student Ministries provides same-age, same-gender small groups that meet once a week for fun, sharing, and a devotion. These groups are intended for relationship building and walking with each other through life's ups and downs. Small groups will resume meeting in the Youth Wing and the College Classroom from 6:00 to 7:00 after the fellowship dinner next Wednesday, September 2. Join us!
Fall Retreat for Middle and High School Students Sept. 5-7
All FPC middle and high school students are invited to our fall retreat at New Frontiers Adventure Camp over the first weekend in September. We will have a worship service in a cave, go ziplining, and conquer a high-ropes course! We will leave from the church at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, and return on Labor Day, Monday, September 7.
To join us for a weekend of fun and fellowship with your friends, fill out the Fall Retreat registration form that you'll find here. You'll also need the New Frontiers release form, which you'll find in the lefthand column of the Student Fellowship Activities webpage, http://fpcbristol.org/growing/student/. To hold your place, you will need to give Katie Arnold a $50 deposit as soon as possible.
Seventh Graders: Join Our New Confirmation Class!
All rising seventh graders are invited to participate in the confirmation course that will begin Sunday, September 13, and continue through April. Participants will learn as they raise and discuss hard questions about faith, God, and more. This course prepares seventh and eighth graders to confirm the vows of their baptism by professing their faith in Jesus Christ.
The confirmation journey is a two-year experience during middle school. Students will be invited to confirm their faith at the end of their eighth grade year. While both grades will meet together each week, our eighth graders will share in extra activities that prepare them for their confirmation in May.
As you learn through discussion and activities, you will find this to be a time of growing as an individual and as part of a group. You will play games, watch videos, and meet friends in new ways. And in addition to your teachers, you will have two mentors, an adult and a high school student, to help you as you go through this process.
Class will take place during the Sunday School hour, from 9:45 to 10:45. We will meet in the Big Room in the Youth Wing. Because class attendance is very important, we ask you to make a commitment to be here every Sunday. If you miss, we can help you make it up, but we trust that you will take this commitment seriously.
If you plan to take part in confirmation, please email Katie Arnold at karnold@fpcbristol.org by Thursday, September 3.
May We Show You to Your Table?
When you come to our single worship service at 10:30 this Sunday morning, take a look around to see what a neat job Roger Sikorski has made of the lawn. He is responsible for clearing your way to that Table for Five ... Thousand inside! We hope the delightful weather holds for Jim Mayden when he takes over in the first week of September. We usually mow through the month of October and sometimes into early November. To join the team, call Randy Cook at 423-956-1541 or email him at npolecook@aol.com. If you've never used a Scag mower before, Randy will be happy to show you how.

Music Notes
Sunday's music participants: Savior's Singers Children's Choir; Jubilate Youth Choir; Lauren Castor, flute; Mark Mervis, bass.
Sunday's music: Author Tom S. Long and composer Allen Pote have a long history of creating musicals based on Gospel narratives. About today's presentation, they write: "The account of Jesus feeding the five thousand is the only miracle--apart from the resurrection--that is reported in all four gospels. In this musical version of the story, we've used details from all four, but focus particularly on the narrative as it appears in John--where one young boy with five loaves and two fish is the catalyst for everything that follows. We don't really know anything about the boy other than his apparent willingness to share, but we know the results of his actions: an event so startling, members of the crowd wanted to proclaim Jesus as king. ... Mother Teresa said, 'We can do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.' We [the authors, and the choirs of FPC] offer this small work in the hopes that it might communicate that message--and along the way, point actors and [congregation] alike to the One who can fill every hunger."
Sunday schedule: Cherub Choir will not meet this Sunday, August 30. All musical participants will need to come to the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. to warm up and get in place. Everyone not in the musical will have Sunday School at 9:30 a.m.
Rehearsal schedule: The final dress rehearsal for the musical will be this Saturday, August 29, at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Children's Bells, Savior's Singers Children's Choir, and Youth Bells will begin regular Wednesday rehearsals next week, on September 2: Children's Handbells (grades 2-6), 4:15-4:45 p.m.; Savior's Singers Children's Choir (same grades), 4:45-5:30 p.m.; Youth Handbells (grades 7-12), 4:45-5:30 p.m.
