We look forward to sharing good fellowship, fun, and food with you!

Annual Rally Day August 9

We open our new program year next Sunday, August 9, with Rally Day. All adults, youth, and children are invited to the Fellowship Hall at 10:00 to learn what's new for the church school year. This will be Promotion Day for our children, whose teachers will take them to their new classrooms. The adult Sunday School classes will resume their customary schedule on the following Sunday, August 16.  Come celebrate the lively Christian education programs at FPC!

Ethiopia Mission Trip in the Works

Ethiopia classroom

Interested in a mission trip to Ethiopia? If you'd like to visit the school and other missional activities of First Presbyterian Church in western Ethiopia, we are planning a trip for early next year. We are looking at traveling for approximately 10 to 12 days in February or March 2016. For more information, contact Peggy Hill by email at peggyhill145@gmail.com or by phone at 423-956-0209.
Thank You for the Stamps!
Thank you to everyone who has been contributing used stamps to the ministry brought to our attention by our Presbyterian Women. This effort supports the preparation and distribution of a Spanish-language Sunday School curriculum used by 40 denominations in 19 countries in South and Central America, and even in the US.

When the stamp ministry began elsewhere in 1972, it raised $4,100. Last year, contributors from many churches enabled the ministry to raise $41,000 from the sale of stamps. By the end of May this year, $17,000 had been realized.

If you wish to correspond with the stamp ministry volunteers, they welcome your letters at Alliance Stamp Ministry, 15000 Shell Point Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

EPIC: How to Pray

This Sunday, August 2, our EPIC journey through The Jesus Storybook Bible brings us to "How to Pray." The readings for the day are Psalm 131 and Matthew 6:5-15. Please join us!
Betsy Turnbull's Inductive Women's Bible Study Resumes August 4

Betsy Turnbull's inductive women's Bible study will resume bimonthly meetings Tuesday, August 4, at 7:00 p.m. We will continue our participation in the churchwide read-through of scripture based on The Jesus Storybook Bible, the children's book by Sally Lloyd-Jones that tells the biblical story from the perspective that "every story whispers" Jesus' name. We are focusing our inductive study on the biblical texts at the root of each of the stories in the book.

On August 4, we will discuss "A Little Girl and a Frail Lady" (Luke 8) and "How to Pray" (Matthew 6). The readings for the August 18 meeting will be "The Singer" (Matthew 6, 9 and Luke 12) and "The Captain of the Storm" (Mark 4 and Luke 8). All women are welcome to come and bring a friend!

Last Chance to FISH Next Week

The final FISH meetings of the summer for Bible study and fun take place next week. Middle school students FISH for the last time Tuesday, August 4, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. High school students' final FISH session will be Thursday, August 6, in the same time slot. Meetings are in a different place each week, so make sure you are enrolled in the Student Ministries info text service. Text FPCBRISTOL to 95577.

Jaw-Dropping High School Back-to-School Bash August 10

Student Fellowship will hold a high school back-to-school bash at Lakeview next Monday, August 10. We will watch Jaws while floating in the water. You seriously do not want to miss these end-of-summer thrills and chills! For more information, contact Katie Arnold at karnold@fpcbristol.org.

Final Family Fun Fellowship Falls on Fifth

We have a new date for the next Family Fun Fellowship event. It has been moved from July 29 to August 5. And because choir practice starts back on that afternoon, we will meet at the church at 5:30, in the Fellowship Hall, for our final summer hot dog dinner. Please join us!
VBS Was Eye-Opening, Hands-On Fun

Last week we enjoyed a wonderful three days of traveling back to Nazareth during our Vacation Bible School. More than 75 children attended and about 50 adults and youth volunteered! Some highlights were hearing "Mary" tell us about her son, Jesus, and watching "Eunice," her neighbor, come to believe that Jesus is the Savior of the world; singing songs; making crafts in the marketplace; eating snacks; and playing games!

The Fusion group of fifth and sixth graders, spent three mornings serving in our community. They went to the Food Pantry, to Bristol Faith in Action, and on a neighborhood prayer walk. This was a rich, hands-on time of meeting needs in our community.

We ended the three days with a program and a fellowship dinner together. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year's VBS an engaging and fun learning time for our children!

From High Summer High Jinks to More August Pursuits

Our new church program year begins soon, very soon, and staff and teachers are busy organizing classrooms, putting away the accoutrements of summer, and generally setting our house in order. Outside, Tom Daniel, Bill Whisnant, and perhaps others unsung continue their weekly labor in the courtyard. More in the public eye, our marvelous mavens of the mower make smooth our path, if it should lie through the grass. Caring for the lawn this week, Pat Flannagan mows us into August. JB Madison is on the schedule for August 5-8, and David Moore for August 12-15.

We usually mow through the month of October. To join the team, call Randy Cook at 423-956-1541 or email him at npolecook@aol.com. If you've never used a Scag mower before, Randy will be happy to show you how.
