Share Our Summer Wilderness Experience
"Wilderness Escape" is the theme of this summer's Vacation Bible School, scheduled for June 9-11, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Children from the age of four through rising sixth-graders are invited to flee Egypt with Moses and the Israelites and travel into the wilderness. Registration forms are available at the church.

We are looking for adults of all ages to help us carry out this adventure in a number of ways. Please call the church office or email Gordon Turnbull at gturnbull@fpcbristol.org, if you can volunteer.

We also are collecting supplies and props for the Israelites' camp. If you can lend or donate any of the items below, please contact Lilly Osborne or Tina Witcher. And please put your name on any item that you would like to retrieve after the Israelites have reached the Promised Land.

VBS supplies needed: easy-up canopies, woven rugs, wicker baskets, flat sheets in solid colors, artificial greenery/palm trees, and artificial fruit.

Men's Breakfast Back on Second Saturdays
The monthly Men's Breakfast has moved back to its old place on second Saturdays and will continue through the summer. The next gathering of the men of the church and their friends for breakfast, Bible study, and good fellowship will be at 8:00 a.m.,

June 14, in the Fellowship Hall. We look forward to sharing this time with you!

Here Come the Brides
It is late spring, and everything has come into bloom: irises and peonies, roses and blackberries, and the first of the summer brides. Our beautiful grounds will be ready for the white shoe treatment, thanks to dedicated mowers like Roger Sikorski (this week) and Jim White (next).

You can help keep our lawns wedding ready by joining our team of volunteer mowers. Just call our mowing team coordinator, Randy Cook, at 423-956-1541, or email him at npolecook@aol.com. Randy will be happy to show you how to use the Tiger Cat.

Music Notes

Sunday's music participants: Sanctuary Choir.

Ralph Vaughan Williams around the time he edited The English Hymnal.

Sunday's music: For an anthem this week, the Sanctuary Choir is singing "Come Down, O Love Divine" from the hymnal. The text began as a 14th-century Italian devotional poem that remained unpublished until the 19th century. Richard Frederick Littleton published his English translation in 1867. It gained wide popularity as a hymn after Ralph Vaughan Williams composed a new tune for it and included it in The English Hymnal, published in 1906. The text lyrically calls on the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and refine and purify us. The expressive, emotional nature of the text is matched by the flowing quality of the music. Vaughan Williams named the tune DOWN AMPNEY after his birthplace.

Rehearsal schedule: The Sanctuary Choir ended weekly rehearsals Wednesday, May 14, but will sing in worship through the end of June. During the month of July, soloists and ensembles will provide music for the 11:00 service. If you would like to sing with us through June, give us a call!

Programs of note: The Paramount Center's Tunes at Noon will begin the summer series of Friday programs on June 6, with basso Tim Landis (and friends), accompanied by Vicki Fey. Then, on June 13, the Bristol Music Club's scholarship winners will perform, with a cake in the lobby afterwards to celebrate the club's 100th anniversary!
