For foster youth, success manifests in various ways. Every accomplishment has a different look for each young person. For some, it's finally getting that job they have been working towards, for some it's getting a stable independent apartment, and for others it's pursuing the high school or college degree that will move them forward. It's about gaining independence and self-assurance, understanding that the past does not define the future.

Last month, a young woman walked through our doors sharing a story that reminds us all of the reasons that we do this work day after day. Her story is a working example of how hope can support a young adult while achieving her greatest dreams.

It all began almost 10 years ago, when Jaime arrived at Youth Homes at the age of 12. She came with a lot of questions, psychological trauma, and fears. Thrust into our shelter, she felt like her world had dissolved into chaos overnight. Far from her family and the neighborhood she knew, she was unsure who to trust and what to expect from this new reality.

On any given day, we face unexpected circumstances and situations when new youth arrive at our doors. It's because of you  that we are given the chance to help more young people understand the amazing strength that they hold inside and the great capacity they have for achieving big things.
