At Youth Homes, one of our intentions is to instill a sense of accomplishment and security in our youth while reinforcing their strengths and abilities. We have been extremely blessed with so many amazing mentors and volunteers throughout the years that have helped us accomplish these goals. One of these
amazing mentors is Peggy Fleming. Peggy has been an incredible advocate for Youth Homes, working tirelessly through the Mentor Program and finding creative ways to engage our youth in hands-on self esteem building activities.

This summer, many of the girls at Andersen House were given the opportunity to participate in a jewelry making class. Peggy, who possesses a long history in the art, thoughtfully arranged all the details, purchased all the necessities and taught the girls all the ins and outs of making beautiful jewelry. Over the weeks, young ladies who were initially reserved became very involved and interested, quickly picking up new skills.

Each girl participated in pricing their pieces and the jewelry was neatly arranged with price tags. The jewelry has been displayed at a recent board meeting as well as sold to other Youth Homes employees, friends and family with all the proceeds going directly back to the young ladies.  Not only have these girls received instruction in production, marketing and accounting but more importantly,
they have felt valued and cared for.

In addition to this class, the girls had a fabulous time being instructed

Great job ladies - You are making a difference in the lives of these young people!

Summer Garden Sale

The Youth Homes Summer Garden Program sale is this Friday! You are invited to come on out and support this wonderful program. Organic produce and plants will be available at reasonable prices all supporting local foster youth!   Download the flyer here.

The Youth Homes Summer Garden Program provides a unique opportunity for youth in our residential programs to gain job skills and experience while gaining hands on experience being employed in a part time job. Here are some quotes from some of our youth who have participated in this program:

-"This job has taught me the skills to work in a regular job setting."

-"I am able to put this down on my résumé for future jobs."

-"this job has taught me what hard work means."

If you are reading this - you are one of our supporters.  You are a caring person who gives of themselves. You are a representative of the best of our culture; someone who is committed to the common good. As you have seen in this month's newsletter, we cannot do this without you.

During our most recent spring appeal, we were able to raise an outstanding $50,000 for foster youth. Many thanks to Donna and Ken Coit for their generous matching gift, all those that supported this years fundraising goals and those who unselfishly give of their time and talents.

Your gifts are making a difference in the lives of the foster youth we serve.
