For most of us, we know that being 18 does not mean young people are adequately prepared to handle the realities of independent life. From the need for additional mental health services to grasping basic skills like budgeting and balancing checkbooks, our youth benefit greatly when they are given additional resources to learn and thrive.
Through expanded services provided by the county, Youth Homes is now able to expand Transition Age Youth (TAY) Aftercare services to a broader population. This Full Service Partnership allows our team to focus more extensively on East County and the areas of Antioch, Pittsburg and neighboring communities. This means Youth Homes is able to reach out and support additional youth transitioning into independence.
Equipped with a strong team of clinicians and youth advocates, Youth Homes will now be able to reach an additional 40 youth in 2014. These young people, referred through county programs, will have access to an array of services including resource nights for networking, special workshops focused on financial literacy, basic cooking skills and even job search tools.
As an agency with nearly 50 years of history working with vulnerable young people, Youth Homes is excited to continue offering these high quality services to young residents in the community.
As we all know, "It takes a village to raise a child' and when we remain committed to seeing these young people succeed, we build stronger communities for all.
