Youth Homes

TOPApril Newsletter 2014

MainArticleGreetings!

For most of us, we know that being 18 does not mean young people are adequately prepared to handle the realities of independent life. From the need for additional mental health services to grasping basic skills like budgeting and balancing checkbooks, our youth benefit greatly when they are given additional resources to learn and thrive.

Through expanded services provided by the county, Youth Homes is now able to expand Transition Age Youth (TAY) Aftercare services to a broader population. This Full Service Partnership allows our team to focus more extensively on East County and the areas of Antioch, Pittsburg and neighboring communities. This means Youth Homes is able to reach out and support additional youth transitioning into independence.

Equipped with a strong team of clinicians and youth advocates, Youth Homes will now be able to reach an additional 40 youth in 2014. These young people, referred through county programs, will have access to an array of services including resource nights for networking, special workshops focused on financial literacy, basic cooking skills and even job search tools.

As an agency with nearly 50 years of history working with vulnerable young people, Youth Homes is excited to continue offering these high quality services to young residents in the community.

As we all know, "It takes a village to raise a child' and when we remain committed to seeing these young people succeed, we build stronger communities for all.

CommunityGivingCommunity Giving

Youth Homes would like to thank the Alamo Women's Club (AWC) for all the wonderful donations collected as a result of the annual donation collections drive "Together We Give ~ Honoring Earth Day" held on April 27th.  The community participated by donating some wonderful items at the drive through and drop off located at the AWC facility in Danville.

As the oldest service club in Alamo, the AWC serves the community by bringing women together for fun, learning, sharing, and philanthropy through its many programs and activities!

We think this is a fabulous group of women and our heartfelt thanks goes out to all that came out and participated this past Sunday.

TAY
Foster Youth Work Program

Did you know you can help foster youth by hiring the TAY Work Team? You can call on our great team of young adults to help you with upgrades and changes at your home or business.  This team has the skill and dedication to get you ready for the summer sunshine. Some examples of projects include; landscaping, yard clean-up, painting, light carpentry, fencing and decks and some light electrical.

 Hope in Action

By partnering with the TAY Program, you are helping us support youth as they make the vital transition to independent adulthood.  Since 2011 we have seen these youth flourish, with many moving forward to pursue jobs in the private sector. Through this training program, youth gain tangible work skills ranging from communication and leadership to hands on skills in carpentry and landscaping.

Additional work project ideas can be discussed by calling program supervisor Beth Ransom at (925) 818-3934.

DirectorNoteDear friends,

Because of your kindness and generosity, Youth Homes is running on all cylinders. We have operated 24 hour care safely and effectively for nearly 50 years because of the highly committed and trained agency staff. I am continuously amazed at how many staff, in any given week, go the extra mile to support one another and ensure our kids are safe and well cared for. The result? Youth Homes is a highly respected and reliable program that is constantly striving to improve our system of care.

I never tire of saying that we could not do this work without the support of so many caring and wonderful people.

Sincerely,
Stu Sig
