Greetings!
For the vast majority of youth in the foster care system, the journey to recovery from childhood trauma is long and every day is filled with uncertainty. A large number of foster kids struggle with social relationships and many youth drop out of school, never receiving a high school diploma. At Youth Homes, we rewrite what is possible, creating a new story filled with hope and possibility thanks to our clinical staff and volunteers.
In 2009, Jeffrey and Tony met and began forging Tony's new story. Not only was Tony in the foster care system, he faced cognitive impairment since the time of his birth, affecting his ability to concentrate, formulate ideas, reason and remember. With Jeffrey's unwavering guidance and support, Tony has become the young man he was meant to be: Tony now holds a stable job and is raising a family. When he needs advice or someone to cheer him on, he turns to Jeffrey who backs him up when life hands him a new challenge.
This is the Youth Homes commitment: We never give up on a kid. For foster youth like Tony, the Youth Homes commitment makes moving on to an independent, healthy and productive adulthood the new story.

Living Legends
Joanne Taylor has been the heart and soul of the Youth Homes Auxiliary for four decades; this extraordinary dedication was recognized in 2012 with the creation of the Joanne Taylor Scholarship Fund. Seven young women were delighted to be the first recipients of scholarships which will further their education - a natural fit for Joanne, a former schoolteacher.
On the verge of retirement in the 1970's, Joanne heard about the work of a local youth agency from a good friend. It was a discussion that would change the course of Joanne's life and the future of Youth Homes.

Community Giving
On September 14th, volunteers from Rockwell Automation, a company based in San Ramon, came out to support "Day of Caring 2012" at our Pryor Center shelter. These amazing, dedicated co-workers spent the day painting, cleaning, repairing walls, and planting broccoli and lettuce, as well as laughing, bonding and enjoying the opportunity that they had to support foster youth in their community. View the slideshow here!
For our youth, these opportunities create more than just change in the buildings. It changes their perceptions of themselves when they see how much the community cares about investing in them and their surroundings. On behalf of our youth, we extend a very special THANK YOU! to the team at Rockwell for providing our home with a facelift and a bright new outlook on the future. You continue to help us be the place where hope lives and grows.
