Due Diligence Before Hiring a Physician
Hiring physicians for your hospital or practice can be a stressful and daunting task. There's no doubt you'll be tasked with extensive background checks, including follow-up on education, references, and past employment. Time and energy should be expended to ensure due diligence is performed and bad doctors or imposters are unable to infiltrate your business.
Though many hospitals utilize medical recruiters for the interview and screening process, the method is not fail-proof. These recruiters do not have all the tools or resources necessary to properly screen candidates.

  • Will this be profitable?
  • Do the benefits outweigh the loss of my independence?
  • Who would handle the billing and credentialing under this new arrangement?
  • What are the termination-related clauses in the agreement and what is our guarantee period?
  • What would be the cost of malpractice tail insurance? How is payment going to occur, and what are the cash-flow consequences? (i.e. if the hospital were to add payment for the coverage to the physician's bonus, then he or she would have to pay taxes on it.)
  • What is the employment agreement length and...  Read more
