"We're all friends here" is a prelude to fraud. "I am sincere" is a prelude to lying.

Fraud: Prevention and Detection

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." In the case of business fraud, that ounce of prevention is worth 5% of your revenue. That is how much the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) estimates the typical organization loses to fraud every year. Fraud can happen in any business of any size in any industry, and in its 2012 Report to the Nations the ACFE emphasizes the importance of prevention in protecting your business: "the presence of anti-fraud controls is notably correlated with significant decreases in the cost and duration of fraud schemes."

Prevention of fraud is certainly ideal. However, it is not always possible. If your business falls victim to fraud, Arkansas Investigations has the experience and specialized training necessary to help you detect and prosecute fraudsters.

CASE STUDY

A business owner received a tip about possible internal fraud at his business. After searching for an investigator with fraud investigative experience, he found Arkansas Investigations. We met covertly with the informant at least eight times in several different locations over a period of several weeks to obtain the details of the fraud and to clarify exactly what he/she could testify to. We conducted a variety of covert surveillances, a series of interviews and a volume of research through records and databases, and obtained almost 100 sworn statements relevant to the fraud. At the conclusion of our investigation, we turned enough documented information over to the client that he was able to file lawsuits in federal court for the approximate $4.5 million loss. At last check, at least 4 co-conspirators were named in the lawsuit.

As in the case study, occupational fraud is more likely to be detected by a tip than any other method. Would you know what to do if you received a tip about fraud in your business? Arkansas Investigations does. We've had specialized training in this area and are also Certified Fraud Examiners, which by its own label identifies someone with specialized experience. There are only a handful of these experts in Arkansas, and we are the only licensed private investigative agency with a CFE on staff.

Arkansas Investigations is uniquely positioned to help you protect your business from within. Our in-depth fraud detection analysis of your business practices will identify current and potential vulnerabilities, and we can help you establish policies, procedures, and systems to help protect your business from fraudsters. A Newer Face of Fraud

Imagine finding out that your last closed door meeting wasn't actually "closed." Imagine if the things you shared in confidence...sensitive information about your business or employees...were anything but confidential. Now imagine that in addition to violating your privacy, someone used this confidential information for their own gain and your loss. That is the nature of discrete eavesdropping, and it is the new face of fraud.

Most business owners do not expect eavesdropping devices in their offices, and admittedly, it seems a bit James Bond-ish, but it is happening with increasing frequency. Disgruntled employees, unethical contractors, and enterprising competitors have used eavesdropping to victimize unsuspecting business owners just like you.

TSCM stands for Technical Security Counter Measure, and it is the service of detection of eavesdropping devices. Arkansas Investigations is an area leader in using TSCM to help business owners:

  • Protect personal property
  • Protect business secrets
  • Identify who is attempting to eavesdrop
  • Maintain essential confidentiality
  • Proactively identify vulnerabilities and develop appropriate protection

You can't afford to let eavesdropping go undetected. It is a stealthy form of fraud that can cripple your healthy business and ruinyour reputation. If you came up with an amazing idea perfect for your market, what would you do? Most likely you would share the idea in secret with trusted business partners. You would commit time, financial and human resources to develop, test, and refine your idea, and you would almost certainly dream about the positive impact of your idea on your business. Imagine if someone secretly listened in, stole your idea and launched it before you had a chance? This could result in staggering financial and emotional losses for you and your business.

Don't allow fraudsters to steal your information in any way! Don't be in denial and think that this could never happen to you. It can. Arkansas Investigations has the expertise you need to protect your business. Our skilled investigators offer TSCM surveys, wiretap detection, and bug sweeps in a variety of environments. We conduct a complete R.F. (radio frequency) search and analysis that includes the telephone system; all wires, cables, air ducts, and pipes; examination of all walls, ceilings, floors, and furnishings; and a thorough examination of denial aspects (that is, how the physical and procedural security meet the threat). ...
