There is no cure for ADHD - or is there?

Hi All!

Just yesterday I was speaking to a good friend of mine, a veteran teacher of high school science, who declared that there is no cure for ADHD. I was surprised and amazed. She knows what I do, but apparently does not understand. This week I will explain what causes ADHD and what you can do to improve.

Next week, I will bring you the numbers: many before and after statistics of people helped over the years. Keep reading our newsletters to gain important information.

if you missed a newsletter head over towww.pyramidofpotential.com/read-newsletters/ to read any you have missed.

This is the last month to sign up for the Brain Advancement Training. If you would like to help someone improve their brain or you would like to improve your own, p
lease take a look at www.brainadvancementteam.com. We start training on October 1. I'd love to get to know you while we work hard training our own brains in preparation for training others!!

If you are a local to the upstate New York area or in the neighborhood, tomorrow at 6:30 pm, we are hosting a presentation on "Improving Math and Word Problems When the Methods Don't Work Well Enough." This is an open presentation free to the public, all are welcome. We will be across the street from the Saratoga Library, we hope to see you there.

Thank you so much! Kathy

There is no cure for ADHD - or is there?

Neuroplasticity means that the brain can change and improve at any time in life. Period.

But many people do not understand the implications. It means that babies can learn. Toddlers can learn. Elementary aged kids can learn. Teenagers can learn. Young adults can learn. Middle aged people can learn. And yes, even old people can learn.

It means that new connections can be made. It means that underlying causes for neurological problems can be improved. It means that children born with developmental delay can, well, develop! It means that autistic people can reverse some symptoms that make life so difficult, like hypersensitivity. That learning disabled people can improve their ability to learn, and lead a life that is compatible with their IQ.

Speaking of IQ, it means that those with Intellectual Disability can improve their IQ!

It means that people with stroke or traumatic brain injury can increase their ability to function - take a look at Bob Woodruff! He lost a significant portion of his brain, couldn't speak for months, yet now interviews soldiers.

It means that adults can improve their memory, even as it is getting worse!

And finally, it means that those with ADD or ADHD can improve. I see it time and time again. Sometimes it takes only a short period of time like with this one child (I got this email just today):
I started using the exercises with my son after attending your training. How quickly do you commonly see results? I have struggled with my son for 2 years as school has gotten more difficult (he is now in 5th grade) and almost from day one of the 30 days of exercises he has been more focused, he is doing homework before I get home, he is reading more quickly, etc. I just can't believe it!!!

Other times it takes longer, depending on the problem.

ADHD is caused by so many things. I gave a professional development day in Toronto this past June on ADHD. It takes a day to go through everything, but here is a list of where ADHD comes from:

  • Retained primitive reflexes: the child did not go through stages of development enough, so he never developed the ability to attend in the first place.
    • o   Moro Reflex for hypersensitivity especially to sound (requiring a separate testing location) and for impulsivity, distractibility, and anxiety
    • o   Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex for sequencing and organizing
    • o   Spinal Galant for impulsivity, the racing mind, poor organization, and auditory processing/attention
    • o   Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex for visual tracking and slow auditory processing
    • o   Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex for visual tracking and the wandering mind
    • Auditory Processing Disorder, causing inability to keep up with instructions or lectures
    • Visual processing problems, such as averting eyes, overly stimulated by visual material, tracking and convergence
    • Low working memory causing mental fatigue or spaciness
    • Low cognitive attention skills that were never developed

Each of these can improve! Use the Pyramid of Potential system, concentrating on the areas that need the most work:

1.    Start with integrating the primitive reflexes. Use Maintaining Brains Everyday DVD www.pyramidofpotential.com/maintaining-brains. For some people this is the only step that is necessary!

2.     Do a listening therapy for auditory issues.

3.     Do some vision work or vision therapy for visual issues. Be sure to do the previous steps first as this step could be lengthy, painful and expensive otherwise.

4.      Finally, do the cognitive training. You can purchase Growing Brains Everyday  www.pyramidofpotential.com/growing-brains for someone who is in elementary school if you want a curriculum that is written in step by step form. Or, get help from a professional who has been through the training themselves. Go to www.brainadvancementteam.com/locate-a-coach or do it yourself by becoming a coach www.brainadvancementteam.com. Not only do the coaches do the cognitive training, but they work through all the levels of the Pyramid, too.

Please never lose help. The brain is an absolutely amazing thing! Science is discovering so much more about its inner workings every day. Although I have been working with people to improve brain functioning for 14 years, neuroplasticity and all it implies, is still new to most people. Let's all spread the word that there is hope!!
