Hi All!

Hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day. The weather here in New York was beautiful all weekend long. Today's newsletter is focused on Modifications and Accomidations. There are a lot of links but be sure to click each one.

if you missed a past newsletter head over to www.pyramidofpotential.com/read-newsletters/ to read any you have missed.

This is the last month to sign up for the Brain Advancement Training. If you would like to help someone improve their brain or you would like to improve your own, please take a look at www.brainadvancementteam.com. We start training on October 1. I'd love to get to know you while we work hard training our own brains in preparation for training others!!

Thank you so much! Kathy
Modifications and Accommodations

For a very complete list of modifications and accommodations that can be given to help a child succeed, you can "click here" but before you do, consider a few things:

1.     What do you want for your child, student or client in the future?

2.     These accommodations are designed to help the child feel success right now, but will they help him find success in a job?

3.     Which of these modifications or accommodations will actually hurt this child's chances of getting a job (for example, if the child receives extra time, will there be employers who will hire someone who needs to take 50% longer to do the job?)

4.     IQ can improve (neuroplasticity has been known for decades). If you can help this child improve IQ, vision, listening, memory, attention, processing speed and logic, which of these accommodations could be used now, but dropped by the end of the year because of improved  brain functioning?

5.     Consider who is accessible to do brain coaching:

     a.     The teacher who is an expert on how to teach individuals

     b.     The parent who is the expert of the child

     c.     The psychologist who understands brain functioning

     d.     A brain coach who has been trained and could be any of the above

6.     What is the cost of not doing brain training?

     a.     The child's self-esteem. Many of the kids I worked with called themselves "stupid". Some said they wanted to kill themselves - they could see no way out of the situation.

     b.     Getting pushed through the education system without getting an education. I had a student in 6th grade who had been retained twice, so he was 14 when the year started. He was a non-reader, so pushing him through also did not work. (I taught him to read and comprehend using the levels of the Pyramid of Potential in 6 months)

     c.     Being unprepared for the next step - college or career. Many students get through high school while struggling. Then, they fail in college and don't graduate. If they struggle in school and don't have the skills to work independently, they will not be able to handle a job independently, either. If they are dependent on help, they are termed as having "Learned Helplessness". See the video Learned Helplessness ; he talks about education around the 4th minute.

Learned helplessness can prevent people from achieving their goals, something I've experienced first hand.

7.     What is the cost of doing brain training?

     a.     Anywhere from free to tens of thousands of dollars.

     b.     Go to www.pyramidofpotential.com/parents to work on a plan, whether you are a parent or a teacher. Get started today, to see success by the end of this school year.

     c. Brain Advancement Coaching is effective, not overly expensive (tutoring rates) and is done by Coaches who have completed the program and found improvements in brain functioning themselves. Locate a coach at http://www.brainadvancementteam.com/locate-a-coach or if none is near you, consider going through the coaching program yourself! http://www.brainadvancementteam.com/

"Why I Am A Brain Trainer"
Kathy Johnson of Pyramid of Potential gives hope to the world. About 1 in 5 people have an issue with their brain - autism, dementia, Alzheimers, learning disabilities, stroke, TBI, and more. Because of neuroplasticity (knowing that the brain can change and improve), research shows that the symptoms of these problems can be overcome, and the affected person can have success and progress. Because of Kathy's passion, she has helped many people since 1999 to overcome brain issues. You can be a brain trainer too!! www.brainadvancementteam.com
