Hey Folks!

I was browsing the web and saw this picture of a sunrise. It reminded me of new beginnings and that no matter where we are in our lives, we can always start a new path to something fresh.

If you are looking forward to the next session of the Brain Advancement Coaching opportunity, take advantage of our Early Bird Special!

We will start the next session in a couple of months. We have added a Brain Advancement Coaching section to the newsletter. Take a look at it and take a look at our

For the month of November, we will be putting each module of our downloadable Pyramid of Potential Series on sale. Take a look at each one.

Hypersensitivity and Anxiety

Are you anxious or nervous? Are you sensitive to light or sound? Would you like to live a calmer, easier life?

For Hypersensitivity and Anxiety click here

We have done the first of your apps with my young pupil Mitchell, and there are definite improvements in many aspects of his behaviour. He is much calmer and cooperative and seems to be interacting better with his classmates.

Organization and Time Management

Are you disorganized? Are you frequently late but don't mean to be and mix up time? Do you find it hard to keep things in sequential order?

For Organization and Time Management click here

ADD-ADHD, Memory & Bed wetting

Do you have trouble paying attention, are fidgety and impulsive? Do you have trouble with short term memory or with things that are said? Perhaps someone you know has had trouble with bed wetting?

For ADD/ADHD, Memory and Bedwetting click here

Dyslexia and Dysgraphia

Do you or someone you know have a hard time reading, especially with reversing letters and numbers at an older age? Do you have poor handwriting? Do you have a hard time getting your thoughts down on paper?

For Dyslexia and Dysgraphia click here

Vision, Co-ordination & Attention

Do you know someone who struggles with vision - getting headaches when reading, eyes jump over words and lines, or who can read but doesn't like to? Or who had trouble learning to swim or is a messy eater? Who has problems concentrating, but not necessarily hyperactive?

For Vision, Coordination and Attention click here

Sale of the Month
Do you miss the Pyramid of Potential Series?

We are now putting each module of the Pyramid of Potential Series on sale for 15% off each download. How Much Improvement from the Pyramid?

24 years growth in cognitive skills in 6 months? Wow!!

Yes, Allie did very well. She worked on her primitive reflexes (to help her develop neurologically as well as physically). She completed her Moro, TLR (Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex) and Spinal Galant reflexes and received cranial sacral therapy. Her mom said the difference in her socially was "profound"! She also did Therapeutic Listening at the same time. Let's take a look at her scores.

I use the Gibson Cognitive Screening (from LearningRx) to give me a starting point, and then to see how far she has grown. The only subtest on the screening that looks similar to any work that we did was the Auditory Analysis. In this subtest, I had her blend ("sss" "t" " ah"  "p" blended together makes the word "stop") and segment (what sounds are in the word mosh?  "mmm" "ah" "sh") words and delete phonemes from words(what is "hot" without the "huh" - "ot". We had practiced this quite a bit with 2 to 5 sound words, mostly nonsense words.

The results in the charts below are measured in relation to her age in years.

Test Name                        Pre-Test   Post-Test Change

                                         Age-equiv  Age-equiv

Processing Speed GCTB    11.3            14.3          3

Working Memory GCTB        8.9              9.4        0.5

Visual Processing GCTB      18              10            -8

Word Attack GCTB                9.2            10.7        1.5

Auditory Analysis GCTB        5               18            13

Logic-Reasoning GCTB        7.5             12.3        4.8

Selective Attention GCTB     7.9              9.8         1.9

The memory test results did not show that she actually did remarkably better with her visual memory.  She did a little worse on her auditory memory. Did her auditory memory really go down? No. She may have been a little nervous or tired, or may have guessed well on the first test. Why did her visual processing go down so much? I asked her mom if Allie is less impulsive, and she said that yes, she used to say or write anything just to get the task over with. Perhaps she took her time during this subtest, as it is a timed test.  Also, we have rewired her brain, so she may be using different modalities to solve the same problems different ways.

I consider a change of over a year significant; less than that could be only the difference of one or two answers. So, to see that her memory, word attack (we did not yet work on reading words; only the skills I mentioned), auditory analysis , logic and reasoning, and selective attention all went up so far, I know that the work we did was what she needed.

I did cognitive training (you can order Equipping Minds Workbook for middle schoolers and up, or Growing Brains for elementary schoolers. once she had completed the Therapeutic Listening, cranial sacral, and the first 2 primitive reflexes. I supplemented it with two activities from MindWare (, Perplexors using the basic level for 3rd to 4th grade, and Logic Links in a box for ages 6 and up. These were to help her with her logic and reasoning skills, as well as language processing.

This summer we worked three days a week for an hour and a half, and gave homework of an hour and a half in between. We began every session with PACE from BrainGym, then followed with about 10 different cognitive activities. Because auditory processing was so low, we did at least 4 auditory activities, with logic, visual, and movement activities sprinkled in between. Each week she had to self-evaluate what changed for the better, so she could see how she had improved. She noticed how reading was easier and how her memory improved; her mom noticed an improvement in her attitude, social ability and perseverance.

Her ability to easily read and remember what she read is still low. I am now working with her using the Phono-Graphix reading program to quickly teach her the "code" of reading. By this I mean that there are several ways to write the sound "oe" including o, oe, ow, oa, ou, and ough. Phono-Graphix teaches sound to letter (as opposed to Phonics which is letter to sound). Since there are only 44 sounds in the English language, and Allie know most of them (the short vowels we worked on over the summer, she knew her consonant sounds and digraphs) so we only have several vowel sounds to go - like "ie", "ee", "ou", "oo" etc.

At the same time she continues with Perplexors and Logic Links, and a few activities from "How to Increase your Child's Verbal Intelligence" by Carmen McGuinness to continue to help with her language processing. Because of the school year and her busy soccer schedule, we are meeting only two times a week for an hour for the next few weeks.

Allie had asked me recently if I was going to tutor her during the school year and help her with her homework. I said that my goal is that she will no longer need a tutor and that she can complete her homework independently. She liked that!

Starting in the new year, she no longer had an IEP or resource room - I was it! I helped her twice a week for the first semester and once a week for the second semester. During September to November, we worked on reading and vocabulary. I started back with her in January, when she said she had an A in reading! So we worked on math for the rest of the year. After she received her final report card for the year, Mom called to let me know that she was on the high honor roll - on her own, with just the little help I provided! She now "no longer needs a tutor" - my goal was reached!
