Here it is - the end of 2013.
As you look back through the year, what important events happened to you and your loved ones, students or clients? I hope that you saw learning, progress and achievement of your goals. I hope you saw success and independence. Most of all, I hope you saw HOPE!
Did you also see tragic events that broke your heart? That perhaps caused some regression and, therefore, you need repair for your brain and body. It happens to so many that I would not be surprised if you saw this.
For most people, we saw both in the same year. We saw family and friends struggle while others found health and wealth.
If you are stuck on the slope downhill from the peak of happiness, just remember this - no one is perfect and no one has the perfect life. If you can actually think of someone who has the perfect life, then I bet you don't know everything about that person. We are all human; we all have faults and problems. There is always someone who has it worse than you do.
And there is always HOPE!
If you can be grateful for the positive aspects of your life no matter what, this moment can be better than the last.
When speaking about the brain and learning disabilities, remember this lesson: No one has the perfect brain. We all have strengths and weaknesses. If we are successful it is because your strengths outweigh our weaknesses. If we are not successful yet, it is because those weaknesses are holding us back.
The message here is important though:
We can change our brain!
Science has told us for decades that the brain is plastic. This means that it can change and improve. We can improve IQ! I have heard people claim that actual IQ doesn't change, only our ability to take the test improves. Yet, when I ask them if they believe the numerous studies that prove that you can increase working memory and processing speed, they realize that yes, IQ can change too!!
Over the last 14 years I have completed the same therapies that I have given to my students and clients. I have seen my memory and attention skills improve, decreased my need for glasses and eliminated my auditory processing issues, just to name a few of the positive aspects. With my program, It doesn't take hours a day or years to make these improvements. It doesn't take thousands of dollars. What it does take, though, is COMMITMENT!
This past year I committed myself to walking 222 miles across New York State. I am NOT an athlete, but I decided that I wanted to feel like I could do anything. The goal I chose was beyond anything I was previously capable of. It took eight months to train, some days as much as 6 hours. Many times I felt like my clients do - knowing that the goal was worth it, but that I would have to endure some long hard training in the meantime. On September 28, 2013, I walked the final 25 miles to complete my journey.
Today I now know that I CAN do anything. I know YOU can do anything you put your mind to. You have to want it enough, though.
Many of my clients have told me that they just want to be NORMAL. If you know someone who wants that too, please consider taking the next step up the hill to success. From personal experience, I can truthfully say that it is worth it!!

I am so happy to share what I can with you so that you will be able to help yourself or those you care about. My work for 2014 is to continue blasting the following message to the world until people understand and believe it:
There is HOPE! You CAN improve your brain!
