Lesson Plans for Youth Softball: Part
In working with younger players, there are things to remember when doing drills.
One of the most important aspects of softball that can easily be overlooked is incorporating a proper warm-up and cool down into practices and games. Often times we forget to execute a thorough warm-up. Some players or coaches may tend to think that things such as hitting or fielding itself is an actual warm-up, but this is not the case.
Defensive baseball in it's simplest form is a game of playing catch! Throwing errors are often two-base errors (or worse). Fielding errors are typically one-base errors; consequently, throwing errors are more damaging than fielding errors. Because throwing is such a vital part of the defensive game, it must be given special attention during practice.
