Greetings!
The theme in May was definitely the Masters, but in June it switched to the younger set. Camden Riviere won his fourth consecutive U.S. Professional Singles playing for the Schochet Cup, eighteen-year-old Tara Lumley won the U.S. Ladies' Open, while her brother John won the Satellite Tournament of the U.S. Pro Singles and nineteen-year-old Paul Monaghan won the U.S. Junior Title. Oh...to be young! Newport hosted its annual Handicap Doubles which brought players of all ages, nationalities and abilities for weekend of spirited play. Looking forward, The Clothier Cup - a biennial team event between the United States and Australia will be held in Newport. Later in July, the club will host the Velvet Rope Invitational followed by The Pell Cup in August. What better place to be, than in the City-by-the-Sea for the summer? Read on for all the details, plus some special announcements and don't forget to check out Ivan Ronaldson's Pro Tip. It's all here. So enjoy the news and enjoy the summer. Until next month... Sincerely,

RIVIERE WINS U.S. PRO SINGLES (AGAIN!)
by Jane Lippincott

Camden Riviere captured his fourth consecutive U.S. Professional Singles title (playing for the Schochet Cup) in Newport capping off a spectacular year for the 26 year old lefty from Aiken. Just a year earlier, coming off a long shoulder injury, Riviere surprised everyone, including himself, by winning the 2012 U.S. Pro Singles. Since then, Riviere has compiled an impressive record; winning in 2012 - the French Open Singles, the IRTPA Championships and European Open. He's kept up the pace in 2013 by adding the National Open, U.S. Open and the U.S. Pro Singles titles. There were two losses along the way - in the semis of the British Open to Rob Fahey and the final of the Australian Open to Steve Virgona - but still, it's been a great year for Riviere.

PRO TIP
by Ivan Ronaldson
Are you getting hammered while stuck at the hazard end? Stop aiming at the dedans! You might win that point but it won't get you the serve back very often.
A softer shot aimed at the base of the second gallery post will either hit the gallery or create a tough shot on your opponent's backhand side.
