New SBA Web Page Helps Small Business Owners Understand the Affordable Care Act

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has launched a new web page to educate small business owners about the Affordable Care Act. Key provisions about the act are broken down by business size, and the page will connect visitors with the federal agencies responsible for implementing the law, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The page also features a timeline of dates when reforms will be implemented and a blog with ongoing updates about the new health care law.

Music Academy Offers a Fun Location to Conduct "Business After Business"
At the next BAB, someone will win $1,000!

Melodies for mingling along with great food and great company made for a successful Business After Business mixer at Damon Foreman Music Academy Tuesday night.

Throughout the year, Chamber members enjoy hosting these events, which offer a fun way to network while displaying the host's goods and services.

The next BAB -- on April 9 at The Prime Rib at Maryland Live! Casino -- will have some additional excitement. Someone will win $1,000!

Every BAB features a drawing for a cash prize using the list of all member businesses in good standing. If a business name is drawn and someone from that company is in attendance, they take home the prize. If nobody from that company is present, the pot increases by $100 at the next BAB.

Now that the prize has grown to $1,000, the Chamber will continue to draw names at the April 9 event until someone wins the big prize. Save the date and watch for registration to open soon at

One Chamber Member is Honored, Another Wins a "Super" Prize
Toby's Dinner Theatre Nominated for nine
Helen Hayes Awards
Toby's Dinner Theatre earned eight Helen Hayes Awards
nominations for its production of the musical "The Color Purple" and an acting nomination for its production of "Legally Blonde the Musical." The Columbia-based theater, a Chamber member since 1980, has the most nominations for a musical in the prestigious awards program, which recognizes excellence in the Washington, D.C.-area theater community.
Within the group of Resident Musicals (as opposed to touring productions) "The Color Purple" was nominated in the categories of outstanding director (shared by theater founder Toby Orenstein and Lawrence B. Munsey), choreography, musical direction, costume design, lead actress, supporting actress, supporting actor, and outstanding musical. Priscila Cuellar was nominated as outstanding supporting actress for "Legally Blonde."
In 2012, judges evaluated 201 productions before completing a list of nominees. The award recipients for this 29th annual program will be announced at a ceremony on April 8 in Washington.
Skip Coale has the Winning Super Bowl Score Prediction

As the only contestant to correctly predict the final 34-31 Ravens Super Bowl victory in the Chamber's recent contest, Skip Coale, president of Coale, Pripstein & Associates, PA, won a gift basket with more than $100 worth of snacks, gift cards and Ravens-themed treats.

The contest was held at the Chamber's State of the County Luncheon on January 31, and the prize was provided by the luncheon sponsor, PNC Bank. Mr. Coale, a Chamber Member since 1980, said he was excited at the end of the game when he realized he chose well. He credited his impressive prediction skills mostly to luck.
