Let's get CREATIVE! The Chesterbrook yearbook wants to give all students the chance to channel their inner VanGogh and get their art into the yearbook. We have been holding an art contest but want to get more submissions. Please ask your student if they want to create a color artwork on an 8 1/2 x 11" page. The only rule is that it should be about OUTER SPACE. If it somehow relates to student life at Chesterbrook, that's even better. Multiple submissions per grade level will be chosen for the book. We will be collecting artwork until March 30th. Please turn it in to Meredith Reid in the Library. If you have any questions feel free to contact PTA Yearbook Chair Tim Steeg at timsteeg@hotmail.com.

Have You Lost Something?
The lost and found cupboard in the cafeteria is bursting with forgotten winter clothing that kids have left behind. These lost things want to get home!
If you are missing a glove, coat or other item, please stop by and see ... it just might be there. (It is currently so full that it is hard to see things and even if your child may have looked once, it could be hiding and need a second look.)

How to Raise an Adult - Author Appearance and Book Club
The Chesterbrook PTA is pleased to work in conjunction with the Safe Community Coalition (SCC) and other local elementary, middle, and high schools by forming a book club to discuss Julie Lythcott-Haims' book How to Raise an Adult. Ms Lythcott-Haims is a noted author and former Dean of Freshman at Stanford University, and in her book she presents a convincing vision of the problems inherent in overprotected, overparented, and over-scheduled kids. Her book offers a smart, compassionate alternative approach for parents who want to foster hearty self-reliance.
The SCC is sponsoring Ms. Lythcott-Haims at the McLean High School Auditorium on Monday, May 2, at 6:30pm and tickets (for $20) can be purchased online at http://raiseanadult.bpt.me. In advance of Ms Lythcott-Haim's presentation, the Chesterbrook PTA will hold a Book Club Discussion on Wednesday, April 13, at 9:00 am, following the monthly PTA business. We encourage you to start reading the book and come to our meeting prepared to take part or just listen to the discussion. A mental health professional from the SCC will be moderating the discussion. Please RSVP at: Click Here. Feel free to invite a friend or neighbor to join you. |
