Seeking Chesterbook Parent Volunteers!
Parents, please join us during our 13th Annual Sixth Grade Ethics Day tomorrow from 9:15 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
We are seeking six parent volunteers who can help serve as table leaders for a group of 8-10 sixth grade students who will be discussing ethical dilemmas, facilitated by our high school students. Our amazing high school students do most of the facilitation work, but we need an adult to help monitor and facilitate as needed. The ethical dilemmas have been created and videotaped by our very own talented middle school students. Lunch will be provided!
We ask that our volunteers please arrive 30 minutes prior to the students' arrival, so we can go over the agenda and our expectations with you. To volunteer, please contact Chesterbrook's School Counselor, Tracey Kretzer at tjmarschkret@fcps.edu. If you have questions, please call Tracey at (703) 714-8229 and/or or check out

Chinese Language Program at McLean High School
As you may know, McLean High School does not offer a Chinese language program at the high school level. The FCPS World Languages department believes the program lacks sufficient interest to warrant continuation into high school. This means that the teaching at Chesterbrook and Longfellow will come to an early end since it will not be possible for our students to continue their pursuit of Chinese. If you support the continuation of a complete Chinese language program in our school pyramid, please write or call the following administrators and let them know that you value this program: If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Michelle Joss at mjoss@stanfordalumni.org or Delia Swigart at delia_swigart@yahoo.com.

Clip Those Box Tops for Education It's that time of the year again! The spring submission deadline for Box Tops for Education is Friday, February 20. What's Proposed for the FY 2016 Fairfax County Budget?
Join the McLean Citizens Association for a meeting with
Joe Mondoro, Deputy Director of Management and Budget, and Kristen Michael, Assistant Superintendent of Financial Services, on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 7:30 pm at the McLean Community Center, Community Hall, 1234 Ingleside Drive, McLean, Virginia. Wondering what the County's Advertised Budget for FY 2016 holds for tax rates, County services, and school programs? MCA, in collaboration with Dranesville Supervisor John Foust and School Board Member Jane Strauss, cordially invite you to this informational meeting to learn what has been proposed. Following brief opening remarks, Mr. Mondoro and Ms. Michael will brief MCA members and McLean-area residents on the advertised budgets of the Fairfax County School System (FCPS) and Fairfax County Government. They each will outline the factors that influenced the recommendations contained within the advertised budgets as well as provide information about what is included in the budgets, what could not be accommodated, and possible offsets. There will be ample time for questions. Fairfax County continues to face budgetary constraints. This informational meeting provides an opportunity to acquire the information for you to make informed judgments and to let your elected officials know how you would like them proceed in light of these constraints. Please come and invite your friends and neighbors. For additional information, check out the Citizen's Guide to the FCPS Budget. |
YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK
Did you know that every teacher or staff member who leaves our school receives a monetary gift based on time worked at Chesterbrook? Kurt Kohls, our School Based Technology Specialist, recently received just such a gift upon his departure for a larger job with FCPS. He wrote this lovely note: "Dear Chesterbrook PTA, Thank you so much for the very generous departure gift! While it is very much appreciated, I am sad for the reason I got it. Chesterbrook has been a wonderful family to me over the past 10+ years! It has been great working with you and your children through the years. Thank you for all of the well-wishes, they mean a lot to me!" The PTA also recognizes certain staff members at our school during special weeks of the year. These weeks include National Library Week, Administrative Professionals Week, School Nutrition Employee Week, and School Nurse Day. In fact, we will recognize our hard working custodians during Custodian Appreciation Week (February 23-27) with a monetary gift. Take a moment to thank our custodians: Aydalina D. Aguilar, Al Nascimi, Chau Nguyen and Lan M.Ong.
