Advanced Academic Center Workshop Tonight!

Tonight at 7 pm Ms. Sweet will lead a workshop in the library about the screening process for students referred for placement in the full-time Advanced Academic Center. She also will lead a session tomorrow at 9 am in the cafeteria as part of the Principal's Coffee after the PTA meeting.

All parents with students in grades 2 through 6 who feel they want to refer their child for full-time Advanced Academic Center placement, as well as parents whose children are in the pool and/or who have questions about the Center or process should attend.

The deadline for referring students for consideration is February 3 at 4:30 pm.

If you plan to attend either session, please contact Ms. Sweet at (703) 714-8240 or

ncsweet@fcps.edu.

Just before the Center discussion, we will have a short PTA meeting at 8:45 am in the cafeteria to discuss our upcoming programs and events. Come join us!
Before- and After-School Activity Registration

Dear Parents,

I apologize for the issues you may have encountered during registration for Before- and After-School Enrichment Activities this past Friday. Due to limitations with our service provider, issues arose, resulting in a frustrating experience for parents. The PTA will work to address these problems before the sign up for our spring activities and will do everything possible to create a smoother registration.

While we wish all who were interested in a class could have a spot, this isn't possible due to a variety of factors including class size maximums (that ensure successful experiences), meeting space to hold classes, as well as availability of vendors and teachers for classes.

I am thankful for our parent volunteers who work so hard to provide a diverse selection of classes and who devote hours monitoring our online sales.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Elizabeth Hale, PTA President

Some classes still are available and will appear on the website.

Family Fun Movie Night: Frozen

Mark your calendars for our next family movie night featuring Frozen on Friday, January 23 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. Bring something comfy to sit on and some snacks and enjoy this great movie. This is not a drop off event! For further information please contact Megan Dennis at mvdennis@msn.com.
Fun Fair Basket Raffle Donations

Fun Fair is only two months away and we are going to collect donations for the ever-popular basket raffles from  January 20 until February 13. We have decided to collect for these fabulous baskets earlier this year to reduce what some call "Fun Fair Fatigue" as it is our largest fundraiser of the year. This is a great time to get rid of that unwanted gift card or holiday gift that you can not use. Each grade will receive a theme or two as in previous years. Donations may be made individually or you can collaborate with friends to donate larger items or send in a monetary donation and let the basket raffle team do the shopping. Please be on the look out for more details in the Thursday folders, from your room parents, and through the Digest.

If you have any questions, please email funfair@chesterbrookpta.org. Thank you in advance for making this great raffle happen!
Support your SCA Share of McLean Drive

The SCA will be having our annual SHARE food and goods drive this January! We appreciate any non-perishable donations that you can send in after the new year. The most needed items include toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, white rice, cooking oil, laundry detergent, and personal care items (shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, mouthwash, dental floss, soap). There will be a donation box setup outside of the library to collect donations. Thank you for your continued support of our community and those in need!
Volunteer for International Night

Mark your calendar for Friday, February 6 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm for International Night! This delicious and fun event celebrates the wide array of cultures represented at Chesterbrook! We are looking for volunteers to represent the participating countries. You can choose a country you are from, a country where your ancestors lived, or just a place you love. Volunteers provide bite-sized snacks from their countries and complete a provided display board with fun facts, photographs, mementos, or other interesting items from your chosen country.

Email Susan Mrachek for more information or pick your country and sign up on our
College Funding Workshop

Do you have a plan to pay for your child's college education? The College Funding Coach is coming to Chesterbrook to teach us about the little known secrets of paying for higher education. This event will take place on
Tuesday, February 10, at 7 pm in the cafeteria. This is an event for adults only.

Please RSVP by February 9 to Elizabeth Hale at halefamilyva@gmail.com. This event is brought to you by Lafayette Federal Credit Union, a Chesterbrook school business partner.

Be sure to join us at 6:30 pm for a short PTA meeting before the session!
Clip Those Box Tops for Education

It's that time of the year again! The spring submission deadline for Box Tops for Education is Friday, February 20. Ask your neighbors and friends if they can collect the coupons for us. Any little bit helps as each coupon is worth 10 cents to Chesterbrook.

Collecting box tops is so easy! All you need to do is cut out the Box Tops coupons found on General Mills products, put them in a zip-top bag, and have your child drop it off in the "Box Tops for Education" container across from the school Media Center.

If you have any questions, please contact Susie French at thefrenchfamilyfive@gmail.com.

Chesterbrook Donations Make a Difference

Our donations to the nearby communities of the Bailey's Elementary School Helping Hands Boutique and Timber Lane Elementary School are very much appreciated. We recently received two lovely notes from administrators at the schools who thanked our community for sharing what we could with the students and their families. Thank you to everyone who donated items to support these schools!
Thank You Volunteers!

Thank you to the volunteers who donate their time and talents by organizing the many successful programs and events at Chesterbrook Elementary School. The PTA officers would like to take a moment to thank those who help make Chesterbrook such a fabulous school!

Become a Chesterbrook Friend

THANK YOU to all the Chesterbrook families that have already donated and become a Family Friend of Chesterbrook in 2014-15. See the list of all our generous donors to date.

We invite all Chesterbrook families to participate in our "Family Friends of Chesterbrook" armchair fundraiser. The Friends program is one of Chesterbrook PTA's primary means to support critical student, school, and enrichment needs. We ask for everyone's support of $100 per family to reach our annual goal of $40,000, but your gift of any size is appreciated.

There are two quick and easy ways to give:
1. You can donate online through the PTA website.
2. You can donate by check. Please make checks payable to "Chesterbrook PTA" and forward to school via backpack mail or mail directly to Chesterbrook PTA, 1753 Kirby Road, McLean, VA 22101.
We also accept Corporate Matching Gifts if your company has a program (just send us the form from your company and the PTA will fill it out). Additionally, businesses that donate $500 to our "Business Friends of Chesterbrook" program are recognized on our website and in other ways at school.
