Get to Know the New Staff at Chesterbrook Elementary
That new friendly smile you see in the front office is Pat Pence. Pat has worked since 1998 in Fairfax County, the past 11 years at Colvin Run ES. She has three children, Taylor (26) a nurse at Georgetown Hospital but relocating to Austin, Texas, Kelsey (21) is a senior at Virginia Tech, and Joe (17) is a senior at Blue Ridge School. Both of her daughters graduated from McLean High School. She has two beautiful golden retrievers - 8 years old - Maggie and Carly. Ms. Pence loves to kayak, hike, travel, run and spend time with her kids. She is always working on her 'bucket list' and ran/walked the Marine Corps Marathon in 2012. "Nothing beats getting saluted and receiving a medal at the end by a wonderful marine!" she said. Fifth Graders will enjoy having Sarah Terrone as their teacher this year. She has been teaching in Fairfax County for the past four years at Greenbriar West, grades 5 and 6. She is very excited to be part of the Chesterbrook Staff this year! Sarah is originally from New York then New Jersey where she graduated from Ramapo College. Since undergrad, Sarah has completed her Masters and Advanced Academics Certification. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys the beach, reading, volunteering at the Washington Humane Society, and spending time with family, friends and her dog, Teddy. Sui Spade is our new Public Health Nurse. She comes to us from the Arlington County Health Department and is originally from Hong Kong, China. She loves plants and gardening in her spare time and is particularly proud of her tomatoes this year. She is looking forward to being with us here at Chesterbrook. Cindy Fenwick is new to the First Grade. Originally from Houston, Texas, Ms. Fenwick has lived all over the world including the UK, Singapore, and Egypt. She attended the University of Chicago and got her teaching qualification in the UK where she taught Kindergarten through 2nd grade for 11 years. After living in Dubai and back to the UK she moved back to Virginia to start a Graduate program in Early Childhood Education. She receives her licensure for K-3 and a Masters in Special Education in Summer 2015. Ms. Fenwick is getting married in December! Cindy enjoys singing and even sang in a band called the Dirty Blondes back in the 1980s. "We gigged around the London pubs and had a blast!" New to the 3rd grade this year is Northern Virginia local, Carly Guinn. She grew up in Stafford, VA and went to school at William and Mary. Prior to coming to Chesterbrook, she taught 6th grade at Colin Powell Elementary in Centreville. Fun fact about Ms. Guinn, she loves roller coasters and amusement parks! Band will enjoy having Dan Freeman this year. Originally from Northern New York, only six miles from the Canadian Border, Mr. Freeman is happy to be in a warmer climate. He is already having fun teaching here! Dan is replacing Alison Parrell and considers himself lucky to have the job. Dan plays trumpet professionally in the DC area, and enjoys playing basketball for fun on two teams. Mr. Freeman lives here with his wife and four, college/high school-aged children. The upper grades have a new part-time Math Teacher this year, Ned Stapleton. He and his wife live in Falls Church and have a son who is a senior at Marshall High School and a daughter in eighth grade at Kilmer MS. His wife is the Spanish teacher at Mount Daniel Elementary in Falls Church. Originally from Mr. Stapleton is from Michigan. The family has a cottage up there and visits often. Ned has had a full career with FCPS as first a classroom teacher and later, as an Advanced Elementary Resource Teacher. He retired in 2011. Mr. Stapleton really enjoys working with the kids at Chesterbrook looks forward to being here for the next several years. Allie Farris is our new Educational Psychologist and joins us from Omaha, Nebraska. She is originally from Smithville, Missouri (a small town north of Kansas City, Missouri). Ms. Farris and her husband moved here for his job, and got hired as a school psychologist for FCPS quite quickly. She is getting used to the difference in locales and said, "This part of the country is slightly different from Nebraska." She loves to travel, and is looking forward to many weekend trips! Our new Art Teacher, Jennifer Lopez, was born in Silver Spring, MD and moved to Northern Virginia when she was in the 6th grade. She is a proud product of Fairfax County Public Schools and graduated from Centreville High School. Ms. Lopez attended James Madison University and this is her 4th year teaching at FCPS. Prior coming to Chesterbrook ES, Jennifer taught at Virginia Run Elementary and Clearview Elementary. She has also taught at the middle school level. In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar, singing, painting, and watching episodes of The Voice. Be on the lookout for fortune cookie readings, Ms. Lopez collects them and sometimes places them in random spots to brighten someone's day! Welcome back to Tracey Kretzer! She is back filling in for Casey Loftus this school year. She was previously here from 2002-2005. Tracey earned her M.S. in Educational Psychology from SUNY Albany and her School Counseling Certificate from George Mason University. Tracey lives with her husband, two daughters, ages 10 and 8, and her son, age 4. She is an active volunteer, serving as a volleyball coach and scout volunteer. Tracey also teaches parenting classes and child enrichment classes for babies and toddlers that include music, sign language, and Becky Bailey's Conscious Discipline. This year Tracey will be working with grades: K, 1, and 3 and helping with our SCA Character Committee and PBIS Team! Our newest addition is Chesterbrook's new Music Teacher, Timothy Grant. Also from Northern Virginia, Mr. Grant also grew up in Centreville, making him a Fairfax County Public School Graduate. He attended Penn State University where he received his degree in Music Education. In his spare time, Timothy enjoys watching, playing, and coaching basketball.
