Become a Chesterbrook Friend
The Friends program is one of Chesterbrook PTA's primary means to support critical student, school, and enrichment needs. We ask for everyone's support of $100 per family to reach our goal, but your gift of any size is appreciated.
There are two easy ways to give: 2. You can donate by check. Please make checks payable to "Chesterbrook PTA" and forward to school via backpack mail or mail directly to Chesterbrook PTA, 1753 Kirby Road, McLean, VA 22101. We also can help determine whether your company participates in a program to match employee donations. Businesses that donate $500 to our "Business Friends of Chesterbrook" program are recognized on our website and in other ways at school.

Clip Those Box Tops for Education
Congratulations Chesterbrook Elementary! Your Box Tops for Education submissions for 2013-14 earned our school $1,064! Let's see if this year we can earn even more! Ask your neighbors and friends if they can collect the coupons for us. Any little bit helps as each coupon is worth 10 cents to Chesterbrook.
Collecting Box Tops is so easy. All you need to do is cut out the Box Tops coupons found on General Mills products, put them in a baggie, and have your child drop them off in the "Box Tops for Education" container across from the school Media Center. The deadline for 2014 is this Friday, October 24.
If you have a 6th grader, middle schooler, or high school student who needs community service hours, we can put them to work. We need help trimming and counting the coupons. If you are interested, please contact Susie French at thefrenchfamilyfive@gmail.com. |
American Music Concert
The fourth- and sixth-grade students will present an American Music Concert in the Chesterbrook cafeteria on October 29. The grades will perform together at 2 pm. That evening, the fourth grade will perform again at 7 pm and the sixth grade will perform at 7:45 pm.

Dress for Success Clothing Drive
The PTA is partnering with xScion Solutions, a company run by Chesterbrook mom Alison Banziger, to collect men's and women's clothing to benefit the DC Chapter of Dress for Success and Career Gear. Both organizations help disadvantaged women and men find employment, while also providing them with professional attire. We're asking people to donate new or gently used men's and women's professional clothing. For a full list of acceptable items, check out the flyer. A collection bin will be located at Chesterbrook Elementary across from the media center until November 14. Please be sure to clean all items and leave them folded neatly and on hangers.

Thanksgiving Lunch
Save the date for Chesterbrook's Thanksgiving Lunch on Tuesday, November 11 in the cafeteria. This is a great tradition where parents, grandparents, and family friends join their child for a traditional turkey lunch at school. The cafeteria will be decorated with student artwork making for a fun and memorable experience for everyone.
This special event would not be possible without your help. The cafeteria staff will make all of the food but we will need about 40 volunteers to help serve. Please contact Megan Dennis at mvdennis@msn.com if you would like to volunteer and keep an eye out for the volunteer Sign Up Genius coming soon! |
Franklin Sherman Centennial Carnival
Come out for Franklin Sherman's Centennial Homecoming Carnival on October 26. The free festivities run from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm with rides, games, live entertainment, and a book fair. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the event at 6633 Brawner Street in McLean.
Franklin Sherman was established in 1914 when four local, one-room schools were combined at a multiclassroom facility near the site where Franklin Sherman now stands. The celebration is a way to thank the community. Come help the school "Celebrate the Past and Build for the Future" on October 26.
