"Fund Our Schools" Rally

Tuesday, February 25 at 9:00 AM
Fairfax Government Center
Wear Blue And Bring A "Fund Our Schools" Sign

Dear Chesterbrook Parents:

As most of you already know, Fairfax County Public Schools are facing an enormous funding deficit for FY2015. Teacher pay in Fairfax is not competitive with surrounding districts. The list of unfunded and/or underfunded programs, especially those for disadvantaged students, is long and growing. Current class sizes are already too large in many schools.

FCPS is asking the Board of Supervisors for an increase in funding so that the budget doesn't need to be slashed any deeper.

If you would like to support our schools, please consider attending a rally outside the Fairfax Government Center on February 25 at 9:00 a.m, organized by the Fairfax County Council of PTAs. After the rally, the group will move inside at the Government Center for the Board of Supervisors' meeting, where the county executive will propose an advertised tax rate.

Even if you cannot attend the rally, your letters and e-mails to Supervisor John Foust (dranesville@fairfaxcounty.gov), Chairman Sharon Bulova (chairman@fairfaxcounty.gov) and a copy to clerktotheBOS@fairfaxcounty.gov would be extremely helpful. Please consider sending a message of strong support for our schools. It is important to make your voice known before March 4, when the Board of Supervisors will set their maximum tax rate. When Jane Strauss, our Dranesville School Board representative, spoke at our PTA meeting last week, she encouraged us to let the Board of Supervisors what we parents are willing to do for better schools, whether that be changes in revenue or budget priorities.
