FAQs

Question:

What is this Book Fair Wish List my child brought home? Do I have to buy all these books? Can I send in money with my kindergartner?

Answer:

Each class has an opportunity to wander through the book fair, and students makes lists of books (and prices) to bring home. Younger students have adult volunteers to help them. Whether you have to buy all of them depends on who you ask--certainly, your child will say "Yes!" You may send in cash or a check to Chesterbrook PTA (no taxes added), or you may come into the Fair yourself, either during the day, during the evening events (hours and details at right). Credit cards are accepted onsite.

Question:

What can I expect at my Parent-Teacher conference?

Answer:

Conferences are an excellent opportunity to get to know your child's teachers and find out how he/she is adjusting to the school year. But at only 15 minutes, they go by fast! Plan to arrive a few minutes early and be prepared with any questions or concerns you'd like to discuss. You may schedule separate meetings with a particular teacher to cover a particular topic in more depth if necessary.  Did you know sixth graders actually lead their conferences?

Question:

Does the PTA have a position on the School Board or state and Federal elections? Who should I vote for?

Answer:

It is a requirement of both National and Virginia PTA bylaws (and the IRS) that PTAs "not participate in or intervene in, directly or indirectly, any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office." While individual members may, as a whole we do not endorse, financially support, or share our contacts with any campaign. We do however encourage all families to learn about the candidates and vote on November 5, because the School Board does have an impact on our all children.

Volunteers
We need many volunteers to make this event run smoothly, so join in the fun with us!  Our greatest needs and most difficult-to-fill spots are generally for our two evening events, which take place from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, Nov. 11th (Pajama and Story Telling Night) and Thursday, Nov. 14th (Raffle and Pizza Night).  Details are on the Sign Up Genius; please click on the link and sign up for multiple shifts if you can!

Have a child looking for service hours? We welcome middle school volunteers to help out with pack up and the evening events.  Please note the middle schooler's name in the "comments" section of the signup.  Questions? Contact Beth Stewart or Robin Birchfield. Thank you for volunteering!
Thanksgiving Lunch
thanksgiving 4 2011

Thanksgiving Lunch on Thursday, November 21st is a special event at Chesterbrook Elementary where most parents take the opportunity to have lunch at school with their child during their class time slot

Many hands are needed to make this possible! Our lunch staff cannot serve this many Thank-Full people on their own. This year we need about 40 volunteers.

Please sign up to help with one or more shifts on our Sign Up Genius. All classes are listed in a time range window to  make it easier for you to plan your volunteer time. Please check the schedule for the exact time of your child's lunch, and

plan to help for the entire shift. It is difficult if volunteers need to leave early or if they come late to their shift! Questions? Contact Jeannine Bottorff

We can also help determine whether your company participates in a program to match employee donations.

This presentation is open to all, so please pass along to neighbors and friends. Be advised, however, that the presentation is intended for adults and some content may not be appropriate for children. We hope to see you there.
