FAQs

Question: If I had a question that might be answered here, where would I send it?

Answer: OK, you caught us. We make up most of these questions, which is why we need you! Please send any and all school or PTA questions to askchester@chesterbrookpta.org, and Chester will do his best to answer them quickly. In most cases, someone will get right back to you. And then for questions that may be of interest to others, we'll add them in this column and on our website. We're trying to get the FAQ section on the website, along with other sections, updated in the coming weeks.

Question (a real question a real person actually asked us): How do I set up a lunch money account? What is a lunch money account anyway?

Answer: MyLunchMoney.com is an online service where you can fund your child's cafeteria account online with a credit card. You are also able to view what they purchased, though you must go into the cafeteria to restrict particular items (ice cream, chocolate milk, for example). You will need to visit mylunchmoney.com and register to set up a new account. It's pretty straightforward, but you will probably need your child's ID number. If you don't know your child's ID number, you can check with his/her teacher, call the front office, or look on his/her Thursday envelope. It's a 7 digit number specific to your child that will follow him/her throughout time in FCPS.

The website allows you to put an amount of your choice in their account, and you will receive notification when the account dips to a pre-determined level. Then you'll receive an email that it's time to add more money. You can also set it up to automatically add money when it dips below that level. You'll never see this again:

Family Directory

We hope to have this year's directory available in October, but we need your help. If you haven't done so already, please verify your family's directory information at your earliest convenience.

Returning Families: If your family's information appeared in last year's directory, you should have received a verification email from: chesterbrook@schooldirectoryupdate. (If you did not receive this email, please email us at directory@chesterbrookpta.org and we will forward it to you). If you have not done so already, please follow the instructions in the email to verify your family's directory information. Verification should only take a couple of minutes and once you complete the verification process, you will have access to the AtoZ School Directories App.

New Families: If your family is new to Chesterbrook this year (or your family's information did not appear in last year's directory), please email us at directory@chesterbrookpta.org if you have not done so already (please include your full name, your children's full names, and their grades). We will then email you information on how to access our directory database (including your own login and password information) so that you can enter and verify your directory information. We will also provide instructions on how to access the AtoZ School Directories App.

Thank you for verifying your family's information. If you have any questions, please contact the Directory Team at directory@chesterbrookpta.org.

Pulcinella Fundraiser Night, October 8
null Come to dinner on Tuesday, October 8th, 2013 from 5 to 8pm at Pulcinella Italian Host in McLean to support Chesterbrook PTA. Enjoy dinner and know that approximately 70% of the proceeds from food and drink will go to the charity, as long as the diner brings this flyer for the event. This even is co-sponsored by HBC Realty Group, www.HBCRealtyGroup.com.
Walk to School Day, October 9
running-backpack-children.jpg Walk/Bike to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community. Students are encouraged to bike or walk to school that day (where it is safe to do so). Parents are encouraged to accompany their children to school, and to work with their school to assemble bike trains or walking groups for the event.
PTA Memberships
Thanks to all who have joined the PTA at or before Open House. There's still time! By joining the Chesterbrook Parent Teachers Association (PTA), you are investing in our children and making a difference at Chesterbrook Elementary. Your PTA dues provide or subsidize a host of education enrichment activities, including:

    ►Cultural Events                    ►Computer Lab
    ►Science Appreciation           ►Field Trips
    ►Family Fun Events               ►Staff Appreciation
    ►Staff Development               ►Discovery Gardens
    ►Classroom materials & equipment...and so much more!

In addition, by joining the PTA, you will receive a FREE copy of the Chesterbrook family directory. This is an essential tool for every household!

Joining does not mean you are signing up for a volunteer position. While the PTA welcomes and encourages volunteers, membership does not mean you have volunteered for any specific activity.

Joining is simple! go online to the PTA website and purchase your membership there. Families are encouraged to join for $20; however, individual memberships are available for $10.

Remember, the more you support the PTA, the more the PTA can support our kids. Thank you for your support!
