FAQs

Question:  I've never done a Fun Fair shift before? What am I suppose to do?

Answer:  We have 2 carnival games per classroom where the children play to win prize tickets. We need parents to run these games. All instructions and supplies are at the game along with another parent or middle school volunteer to help you. Most of the children playing the games have been to the fair before and know the directions.

Question: But I have my Kindergarten child and a preschooler with me, how can I volunteer for a shift?

Answer: You could team up with your spouse or friend to watch your child while you work your shift.

Check out our FAQs section on the website and send any questions to  Ask Chester and we'll answer them here and/or on the website.

One More Week for Online Auction
gavelOur 2013 Online Auction is open until March 10, 10pm, so this is the last weekend to get your bids in. Take another look as LOTS of new items have been added. Whether you're looking for something unique for yourself, searching for a gift for a special someone or looking to add a little adventure to your life, you're sure to find something at  http://www.biddingforgood.com/chesterbrook. There are over 100 items with no bids at all!

Refer your friends by clicking
here. We need your help to spread the word. You can send one email to as many as 10 people at a time. Think of friends, family, neighbors, co-workers who wouldn't want to miss it! The success of this Online Auction depends on spreading the word to as many people as possible. Here's the link: www.biddingforgood.com/chesterbrook.

Also, please check your credit card on file if you might have a new number or expiration date and update if necessary. It takes a significant effort for our volunteers to resolve these issues after the auction closes.

Finally, you may pick up auction items from Julia Nelson's house prior to Fun Fair (W/Th/F) or at Fun Fair by emailing auction@chesterbrookpta.org to make arrangements. Please help us clean up Julia's living room quickly! Thank you for your support. Every bid helps our school!

It's Almost Time for the Chesterbrook Fun Fair

Less than 2 weeks until the Fun Fair!
The fun starts soon, but before that, we NEED 60 more Volunteers: If you haven't signed up yet please go to:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0B45AFAC2EAB9-chinese. We are already looking at games we may cancel if we don't have enough volunteers. Let's get these 60 slots filled by the end of the week! Grab a friend and sign up now--it's also a great way to meet other parents! It's only 2 hours of your time, so you will still have time to walk around with your children. It is also a great opportunity for parents who can't often volunteer during school hours.

We still need Class Basket Donations: Many of our baskets are looking pretty slim. Click here for your grade's theme and send items to school with your child this week.

We need Bake Sale items: Click here to see a listing with your grade's suggested donation and start planning. Please package and label them in clear bags and drop them off Friday, March 15th from 8:15 am - 5:00 pm. in Room 119.

Don't forget to try your luck in our Teacher Raffle. Click

here to see a listing of the items and to print out the raffle ticket order form or to pre-purchase tickets.

And don't forget to come Saturday, March 16th to take a chance or two for our mystery raffle! Thanks for your continued support for this great event!

School Security
Chesterbrook PTA
Improving School Security at Chesterbrook - Volunteers and Input Needed:
The PTA is considering forming a subcommittee to look for input and ideas on improvements to Chesterbrook's security and is looking for interested parents, especially those with a background in security, to help review current safety procedures and look for ways to improve security at our elementary school.  State leadership in Richmond recently recommended creating a fund to help localities make security upgrades to older facilities. There is also a proposal for putting $30 million into a revolving grant program - $6 million a year for five years - to help schools make capital security investments such as intercoms and automatically locking doors.  Chesterbrook's PTA would like to be well-positioned to take advantage should some of these funds become available to our area.

We will begin this discussion at our March 12 PTA meeting at 8:30 am, where we will learn more about the security measures already in place and what additional measures may be warranted. We would like to hear from as many voices as possible to get a sense of the community's concern. Please plan to attend this meeting and/or contact annafernau@verizon.net if you are interested in participating in this group and have ideas or suggestions about improving school security.
Kindergarten Orientation
Orientation for parents of 2013-2014 Rising Kindergarten students is Tuesday, March 12, 7-8pm in the school's cafeteria. This parent information meeting will provide an overview of the kindergarten curriculum and help prepare parents of kindergarteners for this new chapter in their child's life. Please let your neighbors know about the event!

We also have several parent reps, Theresa Valencic, Christy Baldrate, and Lori Boerner, who are planning playground playdates over the summer for rising kindergartners and their families to meet others. Send an email to kinders@chesterbrookpta.org to get on the mailing list for information and to ask any questions of these seasoned experts! Thanks to these ladies for volunteering to help our youngest families!
Summer Quest 2013

SummerQuest Registration for our 2013 Summer Quest camp program has begun!!  Summer Quest will be held over 4 1-week sessions beginning July 8, 15, 22, and 29, with morning and afternoon sessions and an after-care program. The Program Guide includes descriptions of all camps. We also have Matrix that shows classes by week and age group.

Because of construction work at Chesterbrook this summer, Summer Quest will be held at Haycock Elementary School at 6616 Haycock Rd, Falls Church, Virginia. It is the same Summer Quest program you've enjoyed the past few summers taught primarily by Chesterbrook Elementary teachers....only the location has changed and by less than 2 miles!

Questions? Contact summerquest@chesterbrookpta.org.  More details below or at the PTA Website:

Emergency Form: Registration is not complete until the required Emergency Form is completed and submitted to the Summer Quest office.

Medications: Parents with children on medication should administer the medicine prior to and/or after Summer Quest hours. If your child MUST receive medication during school hours, you are required to complete the Fairfax County Public Schools authorization forms available in the school office. Inhalers require an authorization form and must not be transported to school by children. Parents are reminded that children may not transport or possess any prescription or over the counter medication, including cough drops or ointments at any time. All medication must be brought to school by a parent or responsible adult and given to an administrator who will then give the appropriate dosage when needed.
