Dear Friend of FLD,

With Christmas only a week away, we want to remind you that FLD is here for you. Whether it is a last minute gift, some spirits for your holiday party, or just a fun local place to bring your out-of-town guests, please think of FLD.  We'll be open through the holidays with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The biggest news to report this month is a new product release - our first Grape Brandy.

grape brandy

We've been waiting patiently for this one. Much of the distillate was produced when we first fired up the still back in 2008. I can honestly say this might be my favorite liquid we've put in the bottle, to date. It's available only at the distillery and there were only 1,000 bottles produced, so come by soon if you want to pick up a bottle.

As 2012 draws to a close, I'd like to thank all of you for making it a successful year for our company. We've already got some expansion plans in the works for 2013 and will keep you posted. We're excited for these new developments, but most excited to see our loyal customers back in the tasting room and to receive feedback from people all over the world who are enjoying our spirits.

All the best for a safe and festive Holiday season!

Sincerely,

Brian McKenzie
President, Finger Lakes Distilling

Finger Lakes Distilling's Grape Brandy Now Available

We apologize for keeping you in suspense for so long, but you just can't rush these things. Brandy, like a fine whiskey, needs time to extract its amber color and depth of flavor from the barrels in which it ages. This brandy is a beautiful culmination of high quality local grapes, Thomas Earl's crafty distillation, and the painstaking aging process. Since 2008, when we barreled the first batch, we have been anxiously waiting for it to be ready to enjoy. The time has come...and just in time for the holidays!

The abundance of exceptional grapes available in the Finger Lakes makes the region perfect for making brandy. Master Distiller, Thomas Earl said it best, "The Finger Lakes are known for their fine grapes. Fine grapes make fine wine, and fine wine makes fine brandy."

Our Cognac-style Grape Brandy is made from a blend of vinifera and native grapes, all grown in the Finger Lakes. Aged in used whiskey barrels, this brandy has a gentle balance of fruit and oak and finishes smooth with a nice long duration. Look for vanilla and tangerine on the nose and a creamy palette that is reminiscent of rum raisin ice cream.

Our Brandy is exclusively available at FLD and only 1,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled at 90 proof. $48/750 ml.

Come in for a taste. We know you will agree it was worth the wait.

Production Update - New Batches Available

November sure was a busy month here at FLD. We weren't sure if we could finish in time for the holidays, but we distilled, bottled and labeled like crazy and did it!

Here are just a couple of the things we've been working on...

Cherry Liqueur

"Cherry pie, anyone?" this batch of Cherry Liqueur smells and tastes like a pie right out of the oven. The tart-sweet character of the sour cherries will make you want to ask for seconds.

bourbon

Our McKenzie Bourbon Whiskey continues to get better with each batch. The latest, Batch #10, includes a significant proportion of whiskey aged in 53 gallon barrels for 3-4 years, in addition to the 10 gallon barrels we've used for previous batches. It's got the same McKenzie Bourbon character, but is a bit mellower with a candy note that is sure to please.

FLD Gift Cards

We'll start you off with all the fixin's for a White Dog Manhattan - our McKenzie Rye White Dog, Cherry Liqueur, Fee Bros Old Fashioned Bitters, 2 liter barrel for aging and instructions. The fun doesn't stop there, however. Re-use the barrel for other cocktails like an aged Martini or Negroni.
