We hope you are enjoying the warm weather of this past month, the beginning of summer is definitely here. This month's newsletter focuses on "Knowing your Locksmith" and the importance of using a licensed locksmith for your security needs. Many skilled trades have people who are on the shady side, we here at AA Lock & Key, Inc. work so hard to represent our trade in an honorable light.

Know Your Locksmith

The never ending news reports on locksmith scammers amaze us.

After searching on the internet today for locksmith in New London CT we came across "Locksmith Star" serving the New London area. Upon calling them they stated that we were outside their area and when we asked about a physical address they hung up on us.

Searching online for a "local" locksmith will frequently return a national number that forwards to a random company that may not be trustworthy or licensed. If you must search for a locksmith be wary if they:

  • Arrive in an unmarked vehicle.
  • Don't have identification.
  • Ask for payment significantly higher than quoted on the phone.
  • Require payment in cash.
  • Attempt to intimidate you.

Dave's Security Tip-Once you establish a locksmith you can trust, (like us) he recommends you put the contact information in your cell phone for future use, this is especially handy during an emergency.

Keeping the Shine

Summer is the time most folks like to shine up their home or business. Here are a few tips from Schlage to help you keep your locks looking brand new.

Sticky Lock?
Don't use WD-40, use a non-petroleum based lubricant such at GT 85.

WD-40 is petroleum based and it will work fine initially, but it tends to attract dust and dirt causing your  lock to become difficult to operate and eventually jam up.
