Fall is certainly in the air and the change of seasons is upon us.  We are continuing to change here at AA Lock & Key, Inc. and it is with mixed emotions we say goodbye to Wendy, our Customer Relations Specialist.  Wendy has recently taken a position with the Office of Fire Marshals and Building Inspectors at UCONN.  After a great response to the job opening, we interviewed several individuals and one stood out on top!  Meet Linda Riser, who comes to us with amazing experience after serving in the US Coast Guard.  We welcome Linda and hope you will stop in say "hello" soon!  We wish Wendy the best in her new position and we will miss her!

We have some timely security tips for you to keep you safe, as well as some information about recent classes that Dave and Dan attended.  As always, we strive to keep current on the newest technology in order to provide you with the best security available for your business and home.

Daylight savings time ends November 3, 2013.

Remember to change your clocks as well as batteries in smoke detectors and electronic locksets.  This month's security tips come from Ledyard Fire Marshal, Jim Mann, who let us know how important it is to have heat/smoke detectors in our garages.  Many fires are caused by electronics in newer vehicles.  Also, be sure to properly dispose of rags when you are staining or varnishing wood.  Certain types of varnish will combust given the right conditions.

It is also good practice to bring your cell phone and car keys with you when you go to sleep at night.  If a burglar cuts the phone lines for the alarm, you will have your cell phone to call police.  You can always engage the alarm on your car to alert neighbors if you have your keys with you.

On September 10th, Dave attended an all-day Kaba Mas X-10 Certification Class.  This certification course provides in-depth training for installation, operation, and programming of the X-10 lock and presents the differences between it and the X-09.  These locks meet the requirements for files and safes that are used to store classified government materials.

On September 26th, Dave and Dan attended a Schlage Offline Electronic Access Control Solutions class in an effort to have a wider range of services to offer our customers.  This full day session concentrated on stand-alone computer managed access control which would allow customers to program and audit individual doors by means of computer software and a hand held portable programming device.
