Students Prepare for Regional Competition

DCTS sent 24 students to the annual SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference, held November 14-16 at the Pocono Manor Hotel. Students from all over eastern Pennsylvania participated. The students learned a lot and had a great time making new friends as they gained leadership skills that will allow them to come back to DCTS and lead our chapter through a successful school year. They participated in sessions that guided them in developing team building, public speaking, communication, and community service skills, just to name a few.

Alex Eskridge, from the Computer Networking class, brought home a gold medal (for the second year in a row!) taking first place in the 30 second speech competition. Way to go Alex!  The Regional Skills USA competition will take place February 5th and 6th.

Dental Students 2013 Local Dentists Offer Job Shadowing Experience for Dental Students.

The new Dental program at Aston has been off to a great start!  Recently, two students in the program took the initiative to become involved in DCTS School to Career program through a shadowing experience.  Shadowing is a one day experience during which the student spends time in a local business observing someone who is employed in the field.

Stacey Martinez, of Upper Darby, chose to visit Dental Solutions.  Stacey was able to relate her classroom training to what she saw during her shadowing experience and is now sure that she wants to be an EFDA and get as much schooling as possible.

Marisa Bouikidis, of Marple Newtown, chose to visit Shore & Snyder Dental Center.  Marisa wasn't sure if she wanted to be a dental hygienist or a dentist and this experience helped her decide that she would be more suited to pursue a career as a dental hygienist.

Congratulations to Marisa and Stacey on their initiative to take advantage of all the learning opportunities DCTS has to offer!!
