NYC SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT 2017 APPLICATIONS DUE WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15

The official application for New York City's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) has arrived. SYEP is a job program that provides New York City youth between the ages of 14-24 years old with work experience, life skills training, and income during the summer months. However, please be aware that there are specific requirements for applicants. Due to state budgetary restraints, only a limited number of students can be accepted. All applicants are entered into a lottery and the Transition Office will not know until June who will be selected for SYEP.

Our criteria for the Summit SYEP job applicant is as follows:
  1. Applicant must be a resident of one of the five boroughs of NYC.

  2. Applicant must be at least 14 years of age, but not over 24 by July 1, 2017.

  3. Applicant must be available to work every day from July 5, 2017 through August 12, 2017.

  4. Applicant must be registered with the Selective Service System if you are a male 18 years of age or older.

  5. Applicant must be able to transport himself/herself to jobsites.

  6. Applicant must be capable of working independently without job coach supervision.

  7. Applicant must score either an A or B on his/her last report card in the Work-Based Learning subject.

  8. Applicant must be willing to take an entry-level job.

  9. Applicant must submit all paperwork required by March 15.

Option 1: Coordinate your child's SYEP application
through The Summit School.
If your young adult meets these requirements and wishes
to apply, it is imperative that your completed application
be returned with all required documents from the SYEP checklist to Colleen Hopkins in the Transition Office by
March 15, the latest, for forwarding to the SYEP provider serving students with disabilities.

Option 2: Complete your child's SYEP application
directly online.
A parent can directly complete the SYEP application online and submit it to an authorized SYEP provider that you can select from the approved list. Due date: March 17.

The application requires a parent income statement, but this will not be a determinant as to whether or not a student receives placement.

The Summit Transition Office cannot be responsible for any material submitted later than the required date. Since there is no guarantee of job placement, please plan various alternatives, in addition to this one, to ensure your young adult has a productive summer.
