Upper School Hosts Career Speakers
On Wednesday, February 11, Larry Lustberg (in photos below), parent of Lower School student Jackson Lustberg, spoke to juniors and seniors about his experiences in the field of live event lighting and design. Mr. Lustberg owns a company called Stortz Lighting, a major special events lighting and design firm in the New York City area. He showed students photos of some of the major events that his company has designed for clients, including weddings, corporate affairs, and sports events.
Mr. Lustberg shared with students his unique background in theater and set design and how this helped shape his current career. His frequent work with interior designers and event planners, as well as technicians in the sound and lighting field requires a broad view of many different areas. Our students benefited from his breadth of knowledge. Mr. Lustberg also gave the audience advice on how to find entry-level jobs and internships at companies involved in theater production and event planning.
On Thursday, February 12, Eric von Coelln (in photos above), parent of Upper School student Karl von Coelln, spoke to students in our new Graphic Communications class about his experiences working at several game design companies. Mr. von Coelln showed students how games are designed and spent time discussing the different stages of mobile game development. He finished by advising students on how to get a job as a game designer, including recommending that they learn Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator in order to create a portfolio for prospective employers. He also provided names of top portfolio download sites for job seekers in the design field.
Both speakers were invited by Marian Corbett, Director of Summit's Work-Based Learning Programs, as part of an effort to supplement the work program and give students added exposure to careers through classroom presentations. Any parent interested in sharing their career experiences with our Upper School students may contact Marian Corbett at mcorbett@summitqueens.com.
The Summit School extends its appreciation to our parents Larry Lustberg and Eric von Coelln for taking time from busy work schedules to share their experiences and guidance with our students.

Clothing Donations Wanted for Local Charitable Foundation
Former Summit parents, Dr. Beth and Mark Krieger, have started a foundation to provide dressy clothing for business and social occasions for people in need. In special demand are business clothes for men and women to wear at occasions such as job interviews and business networking events.
New or gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories, such as belts and neckties, as well as flat, wooden hangers, are needed at Beautiful Memories Gemach, located at Young Israel of New Hyde Park. This location also serves as a retail job site for three of Summit's students who currently take in donations, organize, and help distribute clothing every Tuesday morning.
The foundation offers clothing to all in need regardless of religious affiliation. Donations may be brought to The Summit School's Transition Office at the Upper School, or they may be dropped off in person in New Hyde Park by appointment.
