Middle District Baptist Association
Missions Offering Daily Devotion
May 19, 2016

This week is the annual emphasis on Middle District missions. While each church highlights local missions at a time that works best for it, through this week's daily emails we encourage you to learn of the incredible spiritual impact of these ministries and to pray for each of them. As God guides, you also may contribute through your church or through the "donate" button at the top of the Middle District website, www.mdba.org

This year's theme is:
"Declaring His glory in our neighborhoods and around the world."

It is based on Psalms 96:3: "Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous needs among all people."

Not a Penny to His Name

Ministers don't go into ministry for the pay. They go because they're called. Many of today's retired ministers and widows literally do not have a penny to their names because their churches refused to pay them a living wage. Dorryce Ann Rudd of Branch's Baptist Church, tells a very touching childhood memory of her father secretly providing bags of groceries for a retired minister who was barely getting by.

The Southern Baptist Convention recognizes this crises and has a fund called "Mission: Dignity" to help these retired ministers and their widows who are below the poverty level and often on food stamps. Part of this year's Local Mission Offering will be given to Mission: Dignity.
