Changing Places and New Faces
As Kimberly Wagner settles into her position as chief of staff, Jessica Butler settles into her new role as interim director of Alumni Relations.

Butler's career at IPFW began as a VPA student, when she served as co-fundraising chair and chair of events for the Student Theatre Organization and performed in over 30 theatre productions before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2009. In 2011, Butler became the assistant director of Alumni Relations, where she has served on many committees, including The BIG Event, Homecoming, and the Dining Etiquette Dinner Series (chair); and established the award-winning student organization Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT). Butler said, "I am a proud IPFW Mastodon and I'm excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve all IPFW alumni!"

We also welcome to our office McKenna Thomas, student worker.

Thomas joined the Alumni Relations office at the beginning of May as a student worker. She is a sophomore at IPFW and has worked in the event planning and design industry for over five years as an event coordinator for Taylor Rental/Party Plus in Auburn, Ind. Also, Thomas has recently been elected as the chair of special events for STAT.

Notably, she worked with the NFL Colts to design a Super Bowl event, organized a Pet Adoption Day in Auburn, and has coordinated and manned and the Taylor Rental booth at over eight bridal shows. We are very excited to welcome Kenna to our office!

Spend a Minute with a Mastodon

Eric Harris, B.G.S. '09
Co-Founder, Owner, General Manager, and Winemaker at Two-EE's Winery

How did you become interested in winemaking and viticulture?
When I was 12 years old we had a gallon of apple cider that fermented in the refrigerator and I wanted to taste it. My Mom wouldn't let me, and dumped it down the drain. There has always been a lingering curiosity there ... I wish I had the chance to taste it, even if it was nasty. While at Ball State I took a class in microbiology where we made root beer with an inoculated fermentation to carbonate the soda. It was fun to spend the week on fermentation kinetics. But, the most influential piece of the puzzle was my future father-in-law's basement winery (Hart's Content) that he and I built from a couple small batches of wine a year to several barrels with several different varieties.

Was there anyone during your time at IPFW who acted as a mentor to you?
Bob Abel was one of the most difficult instructors I had the pleasure of studying under. His style is unorthodox yet effective; he clearly wanted his students to not only learn, but think. Lectures with Bob are thought-provoking and casual, the work is difficult, and the lessons learned stick with you. Read More ...

Read about alumna Emily Hart, Miss Indiana USA (the other 'E' in Two-EE's) and how IPFW has helped her open Two-EE's Winery, and prepare her to compete for the title of Miss USA in the June edition of your IPFW Alumni eNewsletter.

Don't know where to begin?
