Henry Ford called on people who could deliver him that knowledge as he required it. "Men take on the nature and the habits and the power of thought of those with whom they associate in a spirit of sympathy and harmony. Through his association with Edison, Burbank, Burroughs, and Firestone, Mr. Ford added to his own brain power the sum and substance of the intelligence, experience, knowledge, and spiritual forces of these four men. Moreover, he appropriated and made use of the Master Mind principle."

Brian Scudamore, owner of 1-800-Got-Junk, grew his business from $201,532 to $8,057,563 in revenues over only 5 years. His company has won awards such as Fast Company's "Fast 50", Entrepreneur Magazine's "100 Hot Franchises", and Profit Magazine's "Top 100". His business has also been featured by CBS, CNN, The New York Times, Oprah and Dr. Phil. What is the secret to his success? In Brian's article "Small Group Networking Among Entrepreneurial Peers", in his own words Brian says: "In my case, the value of peer networking was more than just incredible business advice. Not surprisingly, the members of my forum have also become some of my closest friends. I can honestly say that my peer network was one of the most important factors in enabling the expansion of my business."

Benjamin Franklin organized a group of twelve members to provide a structured forum for discussion. The members were drawn from diverse occupations and backgrounds, but they all shared a spirit of inquiry and a desire to improve themselves, their community, and to help others.

The CHICAGO 6-- During the early 1900's six men in Chicago formed a Mastermind Group. These men put Chicago on the map. At the time, none of them had any money. They met every Saturday at a local restaurant over dinner, and after a very few years each one was worth several millions of dollars at a time when that was an enormous amount of money! One was Charles Wrigley, who created the Wrigley's Chewing Gum empire. Another was William Hertz, who built the Yellow Cab Company. Their businesses were started and succeeded with the great help of their Mastermind Alliance.

The Value of Collected Wisdom

It all boils down to business leaders working together to leverage their collective wisdom.

Although participants will come from diverse companies and backgrounds, they share some common values. They know:

  • that continuous learning is necessary and that learning from peers is very effective and efficient.
  • they don't know it all and that they can benefit from the experience and expertise of other CEOs.
  • They demand a high return on their investment of time and money.

Last year we launched a hugely successful founding Master CEO Boardroom Roundtable group comprised of healthcare, engineering, commercial cleaning, internet technology, real estate and franchises. We included the best of those models that utilized skilled management coaching with GUEST EXPERTS group and individual training within the group. Top successful entrepreneurs participated successfully in these types of programs and invested to have the opportunity to strategize, receive analysis and engage in one-to-one coaching.

We met once monthly in the board room of the Stark and Stark Law firm for 3 hours, each month focused on a new management issue/topic.

Responses of group members have included :

  • "This is the very best information and investment of time I have spent and been able to secure from anywhere this year.  What a difference it has made to my business"
  • "This process motivated and enlightened us to the importance of strategic planning in order to grow"
  • "Discussing business issues with other owners provides a huge opportunity for me to have an open exchange (where I often don't have this opportunity), hear fresh ideas and find potential referrals"
  • "The outside experts invited have helped answer specific questions I have had on finance, HR, marketing and strategy.  Their answers led to deeper and very helpful discussions"
  • "As a result of one small idea, a little question we learned to ask, from the meeting, made a huge impact in the communication with our staff.  It really opened our eyes to a missed opportunity"
  • "With this group, I don't feel isolated. In fact, I feel all the more empowered knowing we sharing common challenges and that I have been able to secure more solutions"
  • "Honestly, I am surprised.  I have to admit I was skeptical at first.  However, this process and this group has been hugely enlightening on how we operate and the opportunities, tools and even precautions we should be seeking"
  • "I had no idea this depth could come from the SBDC.  Wow, to think I waited so long"

All chief executives, for smaller and larger businesses face a myriad of issues.

And they usually feel isolated.

You don't have to do it alone.

Harness the collective wisdom of peers and experts by joining the
