Lorraine Brock, President
|
Fans and Followers, a word from our President:
Merry Christmas to each and every one of you. December has many additional responsibilities for most families, and I myself have felt the pressure this year more than in the past. Since my son returned from his Army training, I have stayed behind in my work and personal responsibilities. I guess six weeks of off and on traveling tested even my organizing ability.
If your family has a busy holiday schedule and you would like to integrate some time together, I have a few suggestions. Plan your calendar to include some evenings at home. Group your errands and activities on specific days of the week, leaving a day or two open.
Once you get into this habit, be conscious of not filling the open evenings with new commitments. When I add something to my calendar, I look over the entire week to make sure I am not over-committing. If adding something means I am busy every night of the week, I just say no or give something else up.
Our family has some wonderful activities planned for the coming weeks. We will be seeing the Christmas Carol play, going to a drive through Christmas light park, and attending a church wide Christmas party. If you are looking for some Christmas activities for your family, see some of our suggested events below.
I am happy to say our youngest son is home from the Army and we have enjoyed our time reconnecting with him. The picture below is from the day we picked him up at the airport. He is home to attend college while at the same time serving in the Army National Guard. It has been interesting to watch him integrate back into our household. To my knowledge his bed has been made everyday since he's been home without my asking. There has been such a change in him, helping around the house, cleaning up after himself, and just an attitude of doing the right thing the first time. Basic training might be a good idea for all our teens right after high school!

Finally, Get Organized! was featured in the Dallas Morning News on the front page of the Arts and Life section in November featuring our Christmas decorating services. We were shadowed and interviewed by Nancy Baldwin, a freelance reporter who did the entire story. Our team decorated a home in Southlake, Texas where we planned, shopped, and turned her home into a winter wonderland.
As we close this year, my family and all our GO team wishes you a very blessed Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. May you set aside time to celebrate the reason for the season.
Merry Christmas,

Portable Station for Organized Gift Wrapping
|
|
It's that time of year, when all the elves in the family are busy wrapping gifts for each other. Make it easier on them by organizing a gift wrapping station to keep all needed supplies together within reach. Here are a few options:
This sturdy gift wrap work station is a favorite because it sets up like a sandwich board, can move from room to room, and has pockets to hold tape, scissors, tissue paper, gift bags, and 6-12 rolls of gift wrap. When not in use, it hangs compactly in the closet and off the floor.
If you have a little more room in your home, here is another option. This wooden wrapping cart on wheels is also portable, has compartments and drawers to hold a variety of supplies, and has dowels to hold rolls of ribbon. It comes in several finishes and is nice enough to stay out of the closet.
An inexpensive option for storing extra gift wrap rolls is to repurpose an old popcorn tin. Store the rolls upright in the tin. While this is not a complete gift wrapping system since it does not hold all the needed giftwrap tools, it is a good solution for storing extra rolls that you may have purchased on clearance at the end of the season.
|
Tired of giftwrap rolls coming undone and disorganized? Here is a simple way to keep the unused paper securely in place. Neat Roll Fasteners are similar to children's slap wrist bracelets but are covered with fabric. To use, just bend around the roll of giftwrap, no matter the size, and it will stay closed without harming the paper as rubber bands sometimes do. Then, just as easily, remove the fastener when you want to use the roll and replace when done. These come three to a package and can also be used to hold rolled-up posters and cords in a bundle.

Get Organized Behind the Door
|
Here is a way to make use of unused space in any room: the area behind the door. This removable cabinet is completely adjustable so you can customize the spacing of the six shelves to fit your needs in the laundry room, bathroom, or any room where you need more storage.
When installed on a door with three hinges and 3.5" of clearance, the cabinet will stay closed and hidden behind the door. Rods hold items in place on the shelves so they won't fall off when you open the cabinet, and a magnet holds it snug against the door.
Use this cabinet to clear off the clutter on countertops and to make it easier to find items. Or, use it to store inventory in your craft room. You can even use this cabinet to set up a gift wrap station!

Christmas is upon us, and we here at Get Organized hope you plan several events in your schedule for making this season special. Here are a few ideas:
Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano presents the ultimate Christmas pageant, The Gift of Christmas, the first three weekends in December and features a large choir, orchestra, and live nativity. Buy tickets early before they sell out.
The Dallas Arboretum will once again host a beautiful garden gazebo display of The Twelve Days of Christmas, as well as over 300 crèches at The Artistry of the Nativity in the DeGolyer House, through January 3. And most importantly, as you shop and spend time with family, we hope you remember the greatest gift ever given, God's son, Jesus. To help you focus on this message of Christmas, Ann Voscamp's book, Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family Celebration of Christmas, guides your family through the season with daily devotions designed to get the whole family involved in understanding the majesty of God's greatest gift.
Merry Christmas from the GO team!
