The "GO" Newsletter

February was an exciting month for our organizers and our clients as we completed our annual team training over three days at a deserving home in Lewisville, Texas. You can read all about it and see our after photos below.

Although the recent snowy weather was beautiful, it was a definite driving challenge for our organizers. I had one appointment in Fort Worth which required maneuvering up and over a number of hills. I was unable to make it up one street, so I tried another direction, then another way, and finally made it. We are certainly a determined team.

As our business and reputation has grown, we are honored to announce a partnership with a few properties of Sagora Senior Living. It will be our job to work with seniors making the transition from homes to senior communities. We will be coordinating the entire move process, eliminating some of the stress from an often chaotic, emotional phase in their lives. GO will work with communities focused on independent living, assisted living, and memory care.

I hope you enjoy our monthly newsletter and if you have a senior or loved one that we can help through a transition please let me know.

The Truth About
Getting Organized

Have you ever thought about asking Get Organized! to come to your home or office to tame your chaos? You may have wondered what it would involve. Will there be women in high heels snooping in your closets, nosing through your belongings, putting sticky labels on everything, and making judgments about your housekeeping skills?

That may be how it is on TV or in the movies, but nothing could be further from the truth with Get Organized! Read the details of our training event at the home of January's contest winner and learn how our team of professional organizers brushed up on their skills and worked on team-building. They came dressed in their Get Organized! t-shirts, khaki pants and sneakers, carrying their tool boxes, and ready to work.

This month, we show you scenes from the training session to give you an idea of some ways that Get Organized! could help create order in your home, business, and life.
The Consultation

The week began with an in-home consultation between the client and Lorraine, with the team observing. They chatted about who lives in the home, how they spend their time, and what their priorities are for getting organized. A consultation helps the client build trust in the organizers and the organizers understand the client's personality and how best to organize her space. Then, dividing into teams of two, the organizers got to work. They analyzed the current systems to see what improvements were needed to function better for the family. They also took measurements and photographs to refer to as they planned and shopped for organization tools and made note of items that could be repurposed when possible.
Sorting Day

When the team
returned to the home two days later, the place was a beehive of activity. Organizers worked in cabinets and closets, sorted papers, and weeded out duplicate or unneeded items. They moved furniture and made room for the new organizational systems to be put in place. The client traveled from room to room, making decisions on what to purge and what to keep.

Lorraine says, "It works best if the client is willing to purge. She needs to be mentally ready for the process of getting rid of things that have accumulated over the years." After moving at least 5 times in the last 5 years, this client was ready to part with a lot of her stuff.

What should you do with things you don't want anymore? You have several options: donate them, sell them on consignment, or hold a garage sale or an estate sale. Lorraine has prepared a Disposal Options chart to guide you in deciding which is best for you.
The Kitchen and Pantry

The team returned a third day to install the new
systems and put the finishing touches on the organized rooms. So what was the result of three days of professional organizing? The rooms became more functional and less cluttered.

In the kitchen, shelf inserts increase the capacity of the upper cabinets holding dishes. Drawer organizers keep kitchen tools and office supplies sorted in the drawers. The pantry has a new system with boxes and labels that make it a cinch to keep food orderly and easy to find.
The Craft Room

Before

Items on the craft room shelves were sorted and purged, then given new homes. A rail and container
system makes good use of vertical space and holds craft supplies off the desk but within easy reach. Storage tubs now safely corral old keepsakes. Gift wrap is gathered to a central location and gift bags are stored in an accordion folder.
The Home Office

In this room, furniture was rearranged to improve functionality, bookshelves were purged, and paper files were set up.

One of Lorraine's favorite ways to organize home files is with File Solutions, a system which makes it easy to organize important documents and financials,  and find items when anyone needs them.

Several large boxes of CDs were consolidated into one space-saving binder kept in an accessible location.
Laundry Room and Garage

These rooms tend to collect stuff from the rest of the house, so it was important to first purge, then find a home for everything. The organizers added labelled frosted bins with handles that make it easy to get them in and out of cabinets. These bins can hold first aid items, bottles, dishtowels, and more.

The garage tends to attract even more stuff, so it is important to establish neat and accessible storage areas. Wire shelves hold tubs of seasonal items.
Stacking drawer bins are a good place to store kids' artwork and school work, one drawer for each child, until the end-of-year purge.

The Children's Space

The children's closets were purged and sorted, and new systems were added to increase functionality. Collapsible bins hold loose toys, and mesh wall pockets keep little things from getting lost in the closets. Drawers of clothing will stay neat and organized with these drawer organizers.

We hope these samples of the work we accomplished for our satisfied client will inspire you to get your own space organized. The Get Organized! crew did much more than can be shown here, from helping with time management to hanging artwork. Contact us to get started in your home.
