This month I have been thinking about the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon my life. While I am grateful for my car and for the company (Get Organized!) the Lord has allowed me to have, other more important things come to mind. I am thankful for a husband who teaches our boys to be men of character and is also my best friend. I am thankful for a loving childhood that taught me how to work hard and built up my confidence instead of tearing it down. I am most thankful for knowing that Jesus desires to bless my life, just like a parent desires to give blessings to their earthly children. I know that my Heavenly Father desires to bless my life even more
This time each year I review Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation and am reminded of what Thanksgiving is truly about. So often we find ourselves pulled away from acknowledging who provides all our needs and become more attracted to the Thanksgiving sales and the football games.
It is interesting that when our country finds itself in a time of crisis, we find it easy to ask for the Lord's hand of mercy, but when times are good we forget to be thankful to the one who provides it all.
I hope that your family will take the time to verbally share with others what you are thankful for in all areas of your life.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving, |

Planning Your Holiday Feast
If Thanksgiving is at your home this year, here are some hints for planning an organized, successful meal:
- Look for shortcuts that will save you time, such as buying prepared items from the bakery or starting from a mix and adding your favorite ingredients.
- Make a to-do list that includes all food prep tasks, table setting duties, and housekeeping chores to be done before the big meal. Decide when each needs to be completed and make a day-by-day timeline. Share the duties by determining who will carry out the tasks so as much as possible will be done ahead of time.
- Check your supply of dishes, serving pieces, table decor, and tables and chairs. Now is the time to buy or borrow if you are low on any necessary items.
- Delegate as much as possible: let guests bring a dish to the meal; recruit the children to clean the bathrooms or vacuum the floors; hire a sitter to watch the little ones while you bake or run errands.
-
Clean out your refrigerator and freezer of leftovers and expired items before the holidays to make room for Thanksgiving food before and after the feast.
-
Prepare any food items that can be safely fixed ahead of time. Assemble and freeze dishes that are ready to be baked (add defrost time to your to-do list). Chop vegetables or other ingredients to be used in recipes on Thanksgiving day.
- Make sure you are well-stocked with plastic storage bags and other containers for leftovers. Remember that food should never be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Checklist for an Organized Car
We spend a lot of time in our cars this time of year, whether traveling to Grandma's or just shopping in town. You can reduce your stress by being prepared for on-the-road challenges with an organized car. What would you do if you lost your car in a shopping center parking garage? Are you able to recharge your phone if the battery runs low when you are away from home? Can you quickly fix a flat tire to get back on the road? Lorraine has prepared The Organized Car Checklist filled with items to keep on hand in your vehicle so you will be ready for unexpected challenges on your travels.

Holiday Travel Tips
Are you traveling for Thanksgiving festivities or a long holiday vacation with family or friends? Here are a few tips for a more organized, stress-reduced road trip or flight time for everyone in your travel group:
- Make a list of things to pack. Keep it on your computer so you can have it for future trips, but print it out to take with you for repacking as you are heading home. If you realize you should have brought something for the trip, add it to the list and update your computer file when you get home.
- Give each of your children his or her own list of things to bring and let them be in charge of their own packing. If you have children who are too young to do this, you can work together as you go down the list, letting them bring the items to you for packing.
- Pack your clothing in these fabric folders
so your clothing will take less space and arrive wrinkle-free.
- Do not overpack! If you need an item you did not bring, you are rarely too far from a store that has it, and your shoulders will thank you for not carrying unnecessary weight.
- Avoid worry about your home by unplugging or turning off appliances and electronics before you leave.
- Pack a tote with healthy snacks so you won't have to rely on expensive or unhealthy ones at the airport or travel stops.

Give Thanks
We often get so busy planning, packing, cooking, and running around that it is easy for us to forget what Thanksgiving is all about. Make giving thanks to God, our Provider, an important part of your holiday. Here is a list of age-appropriate activities to get kids actively involved in showing gratefulness.
A simple way to make the day more meaningful is to start a Thanksgiving journal for family and guests to jot down things they are thankful for. Bring the journal out each year and, with just a few pages each Thanksgiving, you will have a meaningful book of blessings from those who were with you.

Planning to do something is not the same as scheduling a time to do it. Always schedule a realistic time on your calendar to make sure that an organizing task gets done.
