September has been a busy and exciting time for my family and Get Organized! I am proud to announce that my second grandchild was born this month. With a one year old granddaughter and now a new grandson, I am reorganizing my home again to accommodate a little one. I will be happy to share some of my baby organizing tips in an upcoming newsletter issue.
I am also proud to announce that after two years of saving, our son (17) paid for half his car this month (we helped with the other half). This has been a great life lesson for him and he has worked hard and is so excited. See his picture below.
On the business side, September has been filled with speaking events, and I have enjoyed working on some organizing projects with our clients.
I presented my highly requested Back to School Organized! workshop at IKEA and a number of other locations this month. I have a new topic that I will be presenting October 10, 2014 at a library in Krum, Texas called Mompreneur. It is all about my business journey and sharing with those interested in turning their hobbies and passions into a business.
It is truly an honor to hear from fans at events telling me stories about the years they have followed Get Organized! or from those who have used our services. Many expressed how we have changed their entire family life through our newsletter, organizing, and coaching.
I am humbled by these remarks and say thank you to our wonderful GO Team for how they help our clients. We are ready to serve and accept any challenges. |

Are You Too Busy?

Fall is the time of year when things get busy after the summer slowdown. As events quickly crowd the calendar, do you find yourself always on the go, always working on worthwhile things, but left without space to breathe? If you often wonder how you will ever get everything done and why you said yes to this or that, then it is time to evaluate how you are spending your time before you lose your sanity.
- Figure out your priorities. Perhaps your list might include faith, family, work, friends, hobbies, exercise, or volunteer work. Determine which are most important to you.
- Ask yourself a few questions: Why am I doing this? For my own pride? To prove myself? For fear of not being perfect? Or because it benefits someone I care about? Once you figure out why you are doing a task, it becomes clear whether or not it aligns with your priorities.
- Remember that you cannot do it all. Give yourself permission to have concern about something without feeling obligated to take action, or to recognize a great opportunity but not be able to participate. It is okay to say no.
- Include a day of rest in your week. Try to spend time away from worries and obligations and instead time to focus on faith, family, and things you enjoy. Rest renews your mind and gives you energy for your work.
Be honest with yourself, think through these points, and clear the "busy-ness" out of your life. Spend your time and energy focusing on the things that matter to you.

Displaying Kids' Art
If you have kids or grandkids, you probably have a plentiful source of original artwork. Keep your gallery fresh by rotating your collection. Here are some ideas to save originals or save storage space by photographing or digitizing:
- Hang artwork on the wall using a clothesline and clothespin system, which lets you change the display easily. This wire system from IKEA is affordable and easy to install.
- Make a scrapbook of favorite pieces by photographing them, putting only the photos in a book, and adding a few words of explanation. Give originals to a grandparent or discard.
- Laminate large pieces of art and use as placemats. These become conversation starters at the dinner table as you rotate them and bring out older, beloved pieces.
- Take digital photos of artwork, upload to a digital photo frame, and throw away the originals.

Clear Bathroom Countertops
Bathrooms countertops can be huge clutter magnets. Here is a solution that Lorraine recently featured on Fox 4 Good Day. These recessed medicine cabinets from The Concealed Cabinet can be installed between wall studs like a traditional medicine cabinet, but the front of this wooden cabinet holds not a mirror but your own prints or photographs. Change them out when you want a fresh look, or hang several in a row for more storage and design impact. You could also use them in other rooms to hold keys, spices, jewelry, and other items you want to make less visible.
|
|
Lorraine's Logic
If you organize the contents of the house you now live in, you will have 25% more space for breathing room or something new. Getting organized maximizes space in even the smallest home. You may not need a bigger place after all!

Just Enough

Have you thought about how much stuff you own? It is easy to accumulate a lot of "things" over the years, but all that stuff comes with a price. Total cost can include how much you paid to own it, how much space it takes to store it, and even how much time it requires to take care of it.
Paring down your belongings can be scary but also liberating. Challenge yourself to get rid of the extra things you do not need anymore a little at a time. Clean out a junk drawer or walk around the house with a box to collect things to donate, recycle, sell, or just throw away. Work 10 to 20 minutes a day and gradually come to enjoy the feeling of having just enough. Now is a great time to clean out the garage. If you are short on time or feel overwhelmed with any decluttering work, remember that Get Organized! has a variety of services to help you get the job done.
