As always, I planned my holiday shopping and decorating to be finished by the second week of December so that I could fully enjoy the remaining weeks until Christmas. I may still have a lot on my plate right now, but I have scheduled it on my calendar at a reasonable pace. I've also included some new activities this year: a live Nativity, seeing the play The Christmas Carol, and taking a wagon ride with my family through the streets of Christmas lights at the Deerfield Estates. I recently spoke to a woman about the yearly task of having my husband put up our exterior Christmas lights. He dreads the additional work during a busy time of year, but I reminded him that our 16-year-old son wanted to put the lights up with his dad. Instead of feeling like this task is a chore, he realized that he is creating a memory that will long be remembered. There is certainly no purpose in using time and energy if those involved have a poor attitude. Remember that the reason for the season includes a joyful spirit to prepare for the birthday of our Savior. It is true that work is not always fun, and even work that is supposed to be fun may sometimes be inconvenient. Use the Christmas season to show your children that working together with family can be fun-filled and create lasting memories. Parents should model a positive attitude as children learn from what that see and hear. The night of Christmas lighting brought father and son together learning about extension cords, placement, how to fix strands of lights, and creating a lasting memory. We have a saying in our home, "No joy, fail." Merry Christmas and may you have true joy. |

Packing up the Decorations
Decorating for the holidays always comes with great anticipation. The house is buzzing with excitement as you retrieve boxes from the attic, closets, or storage units, make decisions on where to put everything, and set the mood with cookies and eggnog just for this occasion.
But what about when it is time to take the decorations down after Christmas is over? Most of us consider this a challenging and unexciting chore. However, packing up your decorations correctly will help you find what you need quickly and easily next year. Below are a few tips to help make the process less stressful.
Before you begin the decoration removal, take pictures of your spaces. This will make it easier to put up your decorations next year. Make note of any damaged items you might want to replace through after Christmas sales or pre-Christmas sales next year.
If you are keeping light strands that only partially light up, place them in a separate bag and tag it "spare parts". Make sure breakables or small items are in their original boxes, and if the original box has been tossed, you can use a plastic shoe container.
After taking down hanging decorations, keep specialized hooks with their item and general hooks in a plastic storage container.
An easy way to store wreaths in the attic or another storage area is to place a wire clothes hanger through the wreath. Cover the wreath with a trash bag to protect from dust and then hang from a nail or other hook for storage.
For more information on how to store your decorations, you can read this article from last month's newsletter.

Stocking Stuffer Ideas
Having trouble finding the right gift for all the people on your list? Here are a few helpful hints to finish your shopping for family, friends, kids of all ages, co-workers, and even your White Elephant Parties.
Land of Nod can give you some great ideas, or may help you stir up some of your own!
What about stocking stuffers? Here are some crafty ones. Small creative kits can be something fun and different for the kids. Small games, cards, or puzzles are simple yet enjoyable. Small cars or nail kits will pass the time. How about a small bag with a decorative ribbon of candy, gum, or mints for the occasi on. Gift cards from a favorite toy store is always a winner.
Why not make an impression ornament of a new baby's hands or feet. This is a great way to share the new addition with the family including those who live out of town and cannot be present at this holiday with you. Toddlers would love a grow chart they can hang on the wall in their room. Boys of many ages would enjoy this top secret spy kit. Every little girl loves dress up clothes, shoes, hats, purses, and make-up if you are brave enough to pick them out! Teenagers on your list might like a CD of their favorite music artist.
While you are shopping and thinking of your family this Christmas, don't forget the real reason for the season. God gave us the greatest gift of all! "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten (chosen) Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life"
John 3:16. Take some time to reflect on this historical event with your family this season
by reading it for yourself from the Bible. It is located in the book of Luke in chapter 2.
Remember, you can receive this gift from God by asking Jesus to be the Lord of your life. Blessings from us to you and your family this Christmas!!
